I bought my acer nitro 5 last year Aug, but now I can't even keep it turned on for 10 mins, before battery going from 100 to 10, while plugged in. It also take 3 days of charging to reach 100% battery. Really disappointed with acer

Hi, Good Morning! Sorry to hear about your issue.
Kindly find the battery life information below.
There is no "average" value for duration.Numerous factors will interfere with the duration which mainly depends on how the user is using the machine.

First, understand better about the architecture of a notebook.Notebook components (especially processor and video) only achieve maximum performance when plugged into a power outlet. This time may vary due to a number of factors: air-conditioned packaging with cooler or cooler temperatures, the sum of the applications you have on your machine running, background services, and more.

    See the following scheme:
OS Configuration + Applications + Services = Requirements
    Requests consume resources.
Resources are all types of physical memories (hard drives and storage devices), volatiles (RAM and video), processors

(CPU and GPU), and connections (Wireless, USB, etc.) available on your system.
The more requests, the more resources are spent and consequently the energy consumption increases.
As such, there are several configuration factors that may be undermining your battery power.

The 2 biggest power consumers in a notebook are the display and the wireless system. This Wireless System understands any and all requests made by your equipment to the connection point (router, modem or access point). These include beacons, direct access (such as accessing a web page, online videos or an online game) and indirect access (such as setam's google update services, among others).

Ideally, always use the appliance plugged in and the power options set to "High Performance".Using only on battery power, the system architecture does not allow maximum machine performance to be achieved.

To improve this duration, you can follow some tips by performing certain processes:

    1) Set the notebook to power options for economy mode when using battery only.
    2) Select the option to decrease monitor brightness when on battery power.
    3) Use the appliance in a ventilated place so that the product does not overheat.
    4) Perform initial cell calibration as stated in the product manual.

I hope that this is helpful to you! If I have answered your question kindly click YES, Thank you :)

    Power Drain test.

    1.  Turn off the laptop.  Unplug all the cables and devices including power cable.

Flip the laptop.  On the back of the laptop there will be a tiny hole.  It is called a battery reset hole.  There will be a battery symbol right next to the hole.

    2. You need to insert a paper clip or small pin gently inside the hole and hold it for    30 seconds.

    3. Plug all the cables back and turn on the computer.

    Step 2

    Bios Defaults.

    1. Turn on the computer and keep on tapping f2.  It will go to bios setup utility

    2. Press f9 once on the bios setup screen.   It will show you bios defaults.  Please press yes.

Please go through the important info which are listed below

Solutions For Extending the Battery Life of Your Laptop

    1. Adjust the brightness setting on your laptop screen

    2. Turn off the backlighting on the keyboard

You should have a hotkey or other control on your laptop that will allow you to adjust the intensity of the backlighting. This allows you to turn down the intensity of the screen if handled properly.

    3. Configure the power usage settings on your laptop

Your laptop’s operating system should come with a menu or setup that lets you adjust the power usage settings. This includes help for controlling when the laptop will go into sleep mode or when the screen will be disabled. These modes will allow the laptop to conserve energy. The screen will not be active.

The fan and other features in your laptop will also stop working while in sleep mode. You can press a button on the laptop to get the computer out of sleep mode. The battery usage at this point will be dramatically reduced.

Be sure the timing is planned accordingly. You can get your laptop to work at sleep mode after a few minutes of inactivity, but this should be timed based on your general usage plans for getting your laptop running right.

    4.  Review the online connections you are using within your computer

The online connection you are working with should be analyzed accordingly. This includes looking at what type of connection you are on. You should turn off the Wi-Fi setup if you are not in an area where a Wi-Fi link is available or you do not have a need to get online at the moment. Getting a Wi-Fi connection ready will cause you to use more battery power.

The same can be said for Bluetooth links. Turn off any Bluetooth setups if you are not trying to link to something through a wire.

    5. Remove any peripherals that you do not need or what you feel you do not absolutely need

Some of the peripherals that you might find on your laptop can be convenient. These include peripherals like a mouse or numerical keypad that might be more useful than what directly comes on your keyboard. Meanwhile, a small external fan could be used in one of the USB ports. Don’t forget the use of a portable hard drive.

But you should not have any peripherals in your computer for too long. These parts will use up more battery power than what you can afford to work with. Remove any peripherals that are not necessary for your use. But if you do need to use certain peripherals for any reason, you should avoid using them for far too long or else you might use more battery power than needed.

    6. Review the programs on your computer. Stop any programs that are running that you do not need

    7. Remove any disc drives

Some laptop computers come with disc drives. These include drives that can handle both CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs. Some modern laptops are powerful enough to take in Blu-ray discs.

But those disc drives can use more power on your laptop than anything else. You should eject any discs in your computer so the laptop will not use more power to get those discs running.

This does not mean that you have to avoid using your disc drive. You can plug in the battery charger that links to your computer when using the disc drive. The process will give you a consistent amount of power while the drive is working. But you should also unplug that after you are done using your disc drive so you do not use more energy.

turn off and unplug, place a straightened paperclip in the small hole on the underside of the laptop, press for 10 seconds then let it rest for 15 minutes. pug in and power up. Personally I think your battery is bad and if this doesn't work return it for a new battery under the warranty.

Hey thanks for reply, but battery is draining when plugged in on the desktop, with no app running

This isn't an app draining problem and things are getting really complicated because the above posts are very generic and not specific to your problem. So let me simplify this, Your battery is draining way too fast for apps etc.. so having tried a battery reset you are left with either a bad battery or a bad charger, my opinion is that it's the battery because it's taking way too long to charge and when charged it discharges unusually quickly.
If you have access to another charger you could eliminate the charger as the culprit. If it's not the charger it's the battery. Get it fixed under warranty
