Some games not detecting graphics card even when settings are changed in the control panel

I'm having an issue where some games won't use the nvidia graphics card even when I change the settings in the nvidia control panel. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics drivers as well as using windows 10's preferred gpu settings. I'm using an acer predator helios 300 laptop with an nvidia gtx 1060.

I figured out how to get games to use the graphics card. I downloaded a d3d8 to 9 wrapper and that somehow worked. Now the games are using the nvidia card.

Storm573 have you setup per game/app manually to run on the DGPU intead of the IGPU on nvcp ? or you just set to high performance gpu and nothing else if so setup all games/apps that you want to run in each gpu manually on program settings instead sometimes just setting as high performance gpu will not stick

Storm573 did you uninstalled the drivers completely using DDU or just normally and what are the particular games you are talking about

I uninstalled them using device manager. Mostly older games like Morrowind or republic commando that don't run well with integrated graphics.

Use DDU to uninstall the gpu drivers completely or you can also use a uninstaller software like for ex youruninstaller (its what i always used and keep using) for ex or similar to completely remove all files leftovers and  reg keys that might cause conflicts

I used DDU to uninstall the drivers, then reinstalled the drivers and it still doesn't use my dedicated graphics card.

well thats weird have you tried older drivers even acer stock on both gpus to see if the issue persists if so i would say its the games themselves (some conf game wise or dx incompatibilities i dunno) might not work properly with the gtx and it defaults to the intel everytime its either that or your windows might be bugged due to some latest updates but if this was the case you would have the issue in all games not just a couple of older ones
