A315-21-21A3 - Touchpad / USB Problem

Morning - a friend of mine purchased the above laptop, but complained of its speed so we have upgraded it to a 500GB Kingston SSD. The original disk was imaged, then copied over to the SSD so everything is in tact.

However... it has an odd issue! You can either have the trackpad on... or USB ports?

Using FN-F7, if i turn OFF the trackpad, all the USB ports spring into life. With the trackpad ON, they are all "dead" (although windows can still see the USB ports in Device Manager... its as if the laptop is disabling them?)

Latest bios installed, and have tried with the trackpad in Basic and Advanced mode in the BIOS, makes no difference.

Never seen anything like this before! Hoping for an easy solution!

    Hi,
Give this a try, go to Acer support site and download Quick Access Application, then go to Control panel, Programs uninstall Quick Access Application, then install the downloaded Quick Access Application, reboot and check whether it resolves the problem.

Hi - thanks for the reply.

Tried that, still no joy. I also tried uninstalling and re-installing the mouse driver, now its worse haha :)

Now when i use FN-F7 to turn the trackpad "on", i loose the mouse pointer and have no mouse pointer at all.

The mouse is back in "basic mode" in the bios, i dont care if its basic or not tbh.

    Cheers!

Go to Device manager, expand Human Interface Devices, expand Mice and other pointing devices, post the snip.
Do you find Synaptics/Elan mentioned in any HID device? If not, right click HID-compliant mouse, select Properties, go to details tab and find the Hardware IDs of the device and post the snip like mine.

Ok so, here’s the snips. Excuse the screenshots.

I currently have it in basic touchpad mode, touchpad is off.

    So, that’s my normal mouse.

I’ll activate touchpad now using fn f7

USB ports now disabled, no touchpad available.

Rebooted, touchpad in Advanced mode (bios version 1.23.

again, if I now enable the touchpad, usb has gone, but the i2c device is still code 10.

i have tried updating the driver for it and also installing both the Synoptics and elantech drivers from the acre support page, none bring it out of code10 state.

Could you please right click I2C HID-Device( where the yellow triangle)and click Update driver,  as you have Synaptics touchpad you don't need Elan driver.

Has the yellow triangle gone? If not, right click I2C HID-Device, click Properties and go to Driver tab, click uninstall, reboot and let Windows install the driver and see whether the yellow triangle disappears.

Let us try something else, go to Device manager, expand System devices, highlight and right click Intel Serial IO I2C Host controller, select Properties and uninstall the driver in Driver tab, turn off the laptop with Power button, then switch on to let Windows install the driver.

  • In addition to colleague brummyfan2's tip, try installing this .inf file on the i2c driver.

    Thanks for both the replies.

This laptop is and not intel, so I have :

I deleted both of those, rebooted and no change.

the other option, I used havedisk to install that file from the synaptics driver folder, it copied it and changed the name to synaptics in device manager but also no change. When I attempted then to update that driver, I’m back to i2c HID device, Code 10.

My apologies,I failed to notice that it's AMD chipset, you could try repairing system files by running sfc /scannow command, open CMD as Admin, type sfc /scannow, follow the instructions in the link.

    Running it now.

What was odd with this laptop, was that originally when I switched over to the SSD i wasnt going to bother using the Acer system restore, but install fresh using USB.. I have a USB key that I always use to install Windows 10 and the laptop refuses to see it to boot from, so I ended up using Reflect to create an image of the original HDD then copied it onto the SSD... hmm...
  • Do you still have the original operating system provided by Acer on hdd? If so, you can try cloning hdd to ssd.

I do, thats what I originally did as the laptop refuses to see the USB stick to boot from.
