You must hold it down, the feature is to preven a hard shutdown by accidentally touching the power button and is a standard feature of many laptops.

I have used a similar keyboard for 2 years and literally not a single time have I accidentally pressed the button and even if I did the button is set to sleep which does not ruin anything meanwhile the "solution" acer has is just horrible, if I have to hurry from one class to another and I just want my laptop to quickly be put to sleep.
If by mistake I don't keep the button pressed long enough and place it in my backpack where I usually keep it while moving this will instead keep my laptop running and possibly suffer damages from the heat from being in a small enclosed space, is this what acer intended?
There has to be a way to turn off this useless feature that nobody asked for.

Then set your power plan to put your laptop to sleep when the lid is closed, then you don't have to use the power button
I don't work for Acer, I'm just sharing my knowledge. I suggest you take up your complaint with Acer support.  Have a good day

I found that you can set up a workaround for this with an AHK script: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJcuiH8bH0U   - it makes it so the power button doesn't need to be held down at all!

i have the same issue. you have to press t log to hibernate BUT the bad thing is that really long pressing it just powers of with out hibernatng or shut down. it scucks where a quit short press has been enought for all my laptop in the pass just press it and walk away.

my prolem is that i cannnot seem to find the right pressing time for a medium press. okaty i will set the sleep button to hiberate maybe it will trigger in just one try.
