Acer VX15 - if You struggle with temperatures

Hello everybody.

I decided to write this post, 'cause I - as probably at least some of You - was fighting high temps in my VX15 (I7 7700HQ and 1050 Ti). To make it possible to game without thermal throttling I had to use many tricks (like solid undervolting and finding some experimental ways to bump up fans speeds [everytime I wanted to play a game], since Acer didn't care to let us use some sort of factory software that would let us do it easily). It worked, but was anoying and the temps would still reach above 80 degrees on the CPU when heavily stressed. I also had to put up with fans running as loud as a hairdryer. I waited two years for the guaranty period to finish and finally decided to repaste CPU and GPU and... oh my, was I stocked with the results.

Before repasting, under heavy load (like stress testing) or gaming I would usually see around 80 C on CPU and around 70 C on GPU. After repasting it with a proper thermal paste (Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut in my case) I now get 65 C max on CPU and middle 50's C on GPU. Which is surprisingly good. And - which is even more amazing - I don't even need to bump up the fans speed. Honestly, I wasn't expecting such a great result. Now I can game all I want and the temps are silly low. And I can't even hear the fans, since I don't have to set them to 100% like I had to before. I'm stoked.

So yeah, if You - like I did - struggle with temps in this laptop I would recommend trying to go with repaste, You won't regret it. Especially since the process is so simple thanks to how easy it is to get in there, it's like a dozen screws or so (You do do it on Your own risk of course    )
