Orange thingy on predator sense is much higher since i disabled Turbo Boost

Hello. Today i was told about disabling turbo boost and once I tried it, i was greeted with low temps, from 80-90+ to 70-79 (didn’t reach 80 once in 3 rounds of R6). I am truly relieved as I thought I would have to go get my computer repaired. I’ve now noticed that the orange thing on the predator sense app (I think it represents how much of the cpu is used?) went much higher. I think it’s because since the cpu was overclocked because of turbo boost, it had to use less of its power to work well and made more heat but now that turbo boost is gone, it needs to work more for good performances but generates less heat. Is this even slightly correct? I’d like to know if everything is fine.

Orangy thingy, also called CPU usage graph, is higher cos you have turbo disabled. When operating at lower speeds, CPU has to perform the same task longer to get it to completion. This is normal.

    Your logic is correct!

I tried your tweaks and, well, I don’t know. Disabling turbo boost slightly reduces my frame rate but immensely reduced the heat. Your tweaks let me keep my frame rate but didn’t reduce the heat as much. I’d say yours reduces heat by around 10 C and mine by 20. I think I’m still going to keep yours and activate coolboost to help reducing heat further down.
Correct. Mine is not like a freezer, but reduces heat significantly without sacrificing processor boost levels. And for heat... coming down from 80s to 70s is still a good reduction in heat.

Also, I would recommend cool boost be always left on with fans on auto at all times. It wouldn't kill the fans since boost only increases RPM by about 300 or so.

Alright well i played without tweaks again and the difference is definitely there. Not an enourmous one but one that reduces the heat to manageable temps. Without tweaks and with coolboost on, i got 85-90, and with your tweaks and coolboost, i got 80-85 and max heat was 87 (short spike). I feel like this is really good temp for my most demanding game, and i keep my framerate as well! What do you think? Should i settle down on yours, or go back to my old plan?
The temps you have, under 85 are pretty nice considering it is a demanding game, so i feel it is good to stick to this. Old plan would only reduce performance since it disables CPU turbo boost.

@Bgames and just to add to what @sri369 stated above that by disabling turbo youre killing the beast if you run into a game who might be more cpu intensive youre going to be in trouble as your cpu will not clock above the stock clocks personally i would never do that on any device especially a very expensive machine as i use to say to anyone who disables the turbo might as well had bout a core i3 because thats what it looks like with the turbo disabled but everyone id free to do what they think its right for them the real permanent solutions to lower temps down are optimizing windows/undervolting and repasting with kryonaut or similar killing the turbo its not a solution at all and yes everything is fine until you run into a game that requires your cpu to boost

Disabling turbo is killing the beast?? How? I don’t have any other solutions than this, the heat is too much. I don’t want to send it back, I can’t repasse or undervolt as both might void warranty (I bought a 3 year warranty, that’d be stupid). It doesn’t go that high, it reaches 70% on my most demanding game right now, which doesn’t seem like something that would kill it.

Depending on the country where you live, Acer might send a technician to repaste if you ask them. They will do it for free under warranty.

Alright so I played several matches of R6 to test things (id say around 4-5). My last one was with your settings and coolboost and I got around 85-90 and I sometimes dipped under 85 because of coolboost. Now these temps are both kind of alarming and also the ones i usually get when playing without any tweaks and coolboost on. I’m gonna check again, but either your tweaks are actually ineffective on my pc or it’s because I played for a long while.

Try to raise your laptop height by about an inch using feltpads to increase air flow beneath it.
Get an externally powered USB fan and direct it to the north of F1-F8 keys (that's where the heat pipes are on 300).

Maybe these could help. Just trying out all options to see what might actually help you reduce temps.

Checked again once the laptop had cooled down (played for a while+hot room=higher temps). I got 80-85 C (sometimes 79). I'll make another test without tweaks to get a better idea of the difference.

Hey man I noticed that when playing team fortress 2, my frame rate often dropped down to less than 60 and that i had less frames than when playing without any tweaks. Is this normal?

This is normal, when there is a need for sudden rendering of a large scene. But i find it like kinda momentary - it quickly bounces back. Processor ramps up in lazy mode, taking a few micro seconds to kick it in to full speeds.

It’s not really disturbing me but still feels weird when it happens. I’ve only noticed this happening in TF2. Is there a way to stop this from happening? I mean after spending 1500€ on a computer I feel like I should be able to play without contraints like this..
