My laptop is an Acer V3-571 with windows 8.It wouldn't download Windows updates so I decided to do a factory reset via Acer Recovery Management.I started it 3 hours ago and it is only at 38%.Is it normal to take as long as this?

I'm going to assume that the "Complete wipe of the drive" took several hours to finish, but the recovery process completed successfully?

I had just purchased the laptop on Thursday and after setting it up,I tried to do Windows Updates. It stuck at 0% downloaded and from past experience,I had been told if this happens,to do a factory restore.I started to do this via Acer Recovery Management, and it started to do this o.k.My only concern was that it was very slow in doing so,and it eventually completed successfully after about 4 and a half hours and everything is working o.k.I was just worried that there was something wrong with my new laptop,(my last windows 8 laptop a samsung only took 25 minuretes to do a factory restore. It had to be returned as faulty so I changed to the Acer.)

By the way, what button/buttons do I press on start up to do a factory restore. My old Acer laptop was alt. and f10.Is this one the same.

    Thank you for your reply.

All of the Windows 8 recovery methods are covered in the link I used above.

Glad to hear that it is working properly.

Thank you very much for your reply.I have read through the the links but I cannot see anything about the time it takes.I still worry a wee bit that there is something wrong with it taking so long. Can you through any light on that. Also can you tell me what buttons to press on starting up to put my laptop into recovery mode.I have done a refresh since that and it only took about 25 minutes.

I see.  There are two options when you restore the system.

If you select, "Fully clean the drive", it will take quite a long time, as it removes everything from the drive prior to recreating all of the data for your system.  The time it takes will vary by system, depending on hard drive size.

The other does not do a complete data wipe and is considerably shorter in time.

We do not support "Aomei products" and there is no reason to use other products when recovering the system.

I select "Fully clean the drive" from the two option in resetting the system, is it possible the operating system could be erased?

No, as it will use the retore partition of your disk.

    Well, that is my understanding.

There is something fishy about the way ACER have installed Win 8 in my opinion as I can't do a Reset Windows option on my V3 771G.

It goes all the way, then undoes the changes.

I have a second SSD which is MBR not GPT, I am wondering if this is the problem?

    Probably need a BIOS update

OK. So I have an Acer M5-581 laptop... I initially had a corrupted user profile after having approximately 9 months. I did everything that I saw online to do... restart the computer, blah, blah, blah.. if all that does not work then make a new user profile and transfer over the documents from the old one (and I made my new user profile an administrator). I did that, and every thing worked fine for less than 48 hours. I keep getting the KERNEL_DATA_INPUT_ERROR and my computer restarts... now, this has never happened until I had the corrupted user profile. Anyways, I always back every thing up on my external and I have gotten fed up with my blue-screen problem. My computer WILL NOT complete a system restore, nor any sort of system reset. Honestly, I really just want to reset my computer to the factory settings and it will not do this. It "sends" an error report to Microsoft, but I do not get any sort of report on the reason why I cannot reset my computer.

Full time student + full time worker... I take online classes, and I really need a reason why this is happening, and any sort of fix to help me out.

Do clean installs instead of that recovery restore nonsense; it installs unnesssary bloatware and takes forever to install.

Make use of your time and do a full clean install, its quick and trouble-free.

Some people are having problems with 8.1 upgrade via the Store; their drivers no longer work, corrupted data etc.

Never a problem on a clean install.

Please be aware that doing a "clean install" means you'll be unable to get support from Acer for the operating system.

Installing a retail copy of the operating system does enable you to get support from Microsoft.

There are many people having issues with the Windows 8.1 upgrades, across all manufacturers.

Yeah, but isn't it Acer's job to provide QA tested working Windows 8.1 drivers, support etc.

If anyone is READING, don't delete your Acer recovery partitions when performing a "CLEAN" install, that way you can always install Acer Recovery and do a factory restore just in case an "Upgrade" doesn't pan out.
