Acer Aspire 5 (A515-52G-784Z) Does not charge even when physically plugged in

Hi guys, I need help on this laptop here, as it first flashes both the charging and work LEDs after every time I plugged in the charger for a few minutes. I used to have this working just fine but then this started a day ago. Then the night after it simply stopped charging at all, no LEDs and no sign of detecting a charger. The battery is working fine, but without charging it simply will die to 0%. Tried battery reset pinhole, tried uninstalling battery drivers, checked adapter and cable all verified. Any thoughts? It is quite urgent as I have like only 20% left to go and this is already the new replacement laptop I have just bought for 2 weeks..... TT^TT

Blinking orange battery light means the battery is failing. If the machine is new, quickly return it to the vendor as defective for a replacement or refund before the RMA period expires. Jack E/NJ

Thanks for the reply JackE. I've sent it in today. They said the motherboard is having issues but the chips are mostly working as expected, guess the port and something inside that case is buggy, I'll leave them to figure it out as it's already in their hands. Funny though, even it cannot charge, the battery managed to hold the rest of its juice until this afternoon on idle before dying in the middle of a lecture. They say I should expect weeks for it to be fixed, wish me good luck.

If it was returned it to the vendor/seller, I would request a new replacement. Jack E/NJ

That's the thing, since in Hong Kong rules might be different. The vendor allocated a 7 days warranty by them to swap out a defect. Any time other than that within warranty would be a carry in fix at another authorized company. In my case, I am at the second week so I can only ask for a warranty fix.

7 days is a short RMA period but not surprising. Some vendors are only 72 hours. Good luck with getting it fixed anyway.   Jack E/NJ

Hi guys, back with my new laptop again, leaving this as a record for future reference. The repair turned out to be no parts available, hence Acer gave me a new replacement laptop with a month extended warranty. The new new laptop I received today is a similar model (A515-52G-75LE) from the previous one that I've sent it before. The procedure of repair is that I sent it in, and followed up a couple times over the phone with customer service and they replied about the replacement parts pending at the factory, which then turns out to be not available and offered replacement laptop 2 week ago this post, and then we arranged to receive this new laptop today, right before the working day for my exam to come. =)

    Hi Jack,

Sorry for my very late reply. My exam results were great and I eventually graduated a year later.

For the laptop, it worked quite well until recently the fan started making noises from wear and tear, however somehow the laptop is still as fast as first day. To be fair, that's quite good quality given that I seldom power off this thing. A fan that survived this is totally out of my expectations. Even my friends had their laptops repaired or replaced a year ago.

I did use the laptop heavily day and night as I'm now a professional programmer, sometimes I need to grind work overnight so I guess the fan had been spinning all these years long. That is why I returned to this forum for potential answers and found this reply.

The laptop is definitely out of warranty now (it's been 3 years). With it's speed still fast af, I would find a replacement part rather than buying a whole new one.

    Wish me luck XD.

Congratulations. Thanks for reporting back. Not sure which replacement laptop that you got but the simplest way to get a new fan is to simply google the laptop's full model number (For example A515-52G) and fan for vendors who ship to your location. Should be about $10-20usd. Good luck.

    Hi JackE,

While I was searching online, I found a solution for just simply taking apart the fan and wash it. I'm still amazed for how long I own this laptop and never knew about fan blades can be taken off and washed for a laptop. I posted the content under the other question here:

Now I have a laptop that works perfectly again for free. I'm just still amazed. :P

Congratulations. Unfortunately some fan models have blade rotors that don't easily come off the shaft or are glued on. Resulting in broken rotors. Glad your's came off OK. Thanks for reporting back. 🙂
