That's a great question, actually.    I would have to engage in some guesswork to figure out why that particular message would appear in your error logs.  It happened after a crash of some sort, but I don't know what actually caused the crash.

You don't sound like the system is crashing continually ...

We do not ship systems with a CPU that is not contained in the BIOS definitions.  It is possible that a later BIOS updates the definitions to include additional CPUs that we add to a model, but that should not affect any previously shipping systems.

Why do you need to update the BIOS?

I got one of those systems messages from the laptop that there was a serious problem with the current bios which could cause the laptop to crash.  Want to avoid that happening.

I have no idea what message you are speaking about.

    What operating system?

    Exact error message?

    When did it occur?

The acer action center on the laptop sends out regular messages (it is the white flag icon on the bottom of the home screen).  one of my messages was "consider upgrading your computer's BIOS".  Message reads, "Micorsoft is unable to determine the exact cause of this error.  However, this problem was most likely caused by an error in your computer's random access memory (RAM). RAM is the main internal storage area the computer uses to run programs and store data.

During the crash analysis, we noticed the basic input/output system (BIOS) version on this computer does not match the specification for the central processing unit (CPU), aslo known as a processor, that is installed on your computer. This can occur when a newer processor is installed on an older system board or older BIOS. Using a BIOS thta does not support the installed processor can result in Windows system crashed.  Contact your computer manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer for an updated version of BIOS for your computer's processor".

An interesting, and generic, message.  There are still some unanswered questions that I asked.

What operating system? and When did this occur?

Regardless, there are three BIOS updates on our drivers page for the AOD255E.

Windows 7.  It happened a while back.  I'm really bad at paying attention to these messages.  I decided to go through them over the weekend and that one bothered me.  What do you advise?  Where are the BIOS updates on the acer page?

Generally, I'll advise that if you're not having an issue, don't attempt to flash the BIOS.

The BIOS updates are on the Drivers page, under the BIOS tab.

There's a link in every post I make at the bottom to the US Drivers page.

Thanks much.  I won't flash if you don't think it's necessary. What is the reason for such a message though?
