2019 Helios 300 PH315-52 and DDR4-3200

Hi all, I’m going to upgrade memory in 2019 Helios 300 PH315-52 and want to choose the best option.
On the Amazon product page of PH315-52, a representative Acer America stated that
This laptop supports DDR 2666 or DDR 3200 at the max
and
This model supports SO-DIMM DDRIV 2666, or SO-DIMM DDRIV 3200 memory, 16GB max in each of the two slots
What does it mean, is it just compatibility affairs and real speed will be reduced to 2666 anyway or it can really work on full 3200?
I would think that max frequency is 2666 but on the site of competitor lenovo Y540 here
they list following memory specs
- 8 GB DDR4 2666 MHz
- 16 GB DDR4 2666 MHz
- 32 GB DDR4 2666 MHz
- 16 GB DDR4 3200 MHz
So it looks like DDR4 3200 MHz is really possible with new 9750H? What do you think?
Does anyone have a datasheet for PH315-52, what’s there?

belik disregard what i said after doing some checks in to the service manual of one of the variants 1660ti i found that yes it supports 3200mhz

So can this laptop run memory at real 3200 frequency?0 -

Hi xapim,
thanks a lot for the finding, I think a rep on Amazon had the same service manual stating it.
And one more input for reference, lenovo Y540 on their site also say that supported memory 16 GB DDR4 3200 MHz
https://www.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-y-series/Lenovo-Legion-Y540-15/p/88GMY501214
So I suppose, that probably with the latest hardware like 9750H and 1660ti it became possible?
Anyway, the major question now is which memory to get and tryIs it the only info you can find about 3200 ram? Maybe there are another docs like compatibility list or smth?
Thanks

belik the Acer service manuals are not available to the public only the user manuals
regarding the ram any brand should work fine im not sure if hyperx has 3200 already but if so go for hyperx you wont regret it those i posted above are the original sodimms that come with the units

I see. I checked out crucial web-site who is micron partner for ages and they listed 3200 modules as guaranteed compatible
https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Acer/predator-ph315-52#MEMORYFilters
This is really exciting
The only thing I concerned more is that running it on 3200 may demand more stress on cpu memory controller thus require more voltage and subsequently resulting in higher temperatures1 -

Hi, can you clarify please, should I look for modules where 3200 written to Jedec or Xmp profile?
Does PH315-52 supports XMP?

Hyperx has 3200 modules, it looks there are 3 options to choose 2x16Gb 3200Mhz
1. Crucial CT16G4SFD832A (Micron ICs)
2. Hyperx Impact HX432S20IBK2/32 (unknown ICs)
3. G.Skill F4-3200C18D-32GRS (probably, Samsung ICs)
Btw, only Hyperx say that they have 3200Mhz in Jedec
https://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/HX432S20IBK2_32.pdf
Although, service manual says about Micron, they are out of stock everywhere and this possible lack of Jedec profile can be an issue
Is it ok to try G.Skill or HyperX? I saw one review of new Omen and they used G.Skill F4-3200 there1 -

Just look what I found
On detailed photo of Hyperx 3200 it is chip D9VPP which is from Micron and also their logo on the other side
So Hyperx is ideal choice, it is on Micron ICs and has 3200Mhz written to Jedec so I definitely will go with it. Even if it won’t run on 3200 (not sure whether 2x16 Gb supported on such high frequency or only 2x8 Gb) I hope they will still run flawlessly on 2666 so here is nothing to loose.0 -

So, finally I have got 3200 Mhz memory module
On the right it is old module and new one is on the left, it is 1x16 Gb DDR4-3200 Kingston Hyperx.
They both use D9VPP Micron ICs just as recommended in service manual.
After replacing the memory, at 1st boot system thinks about 10 sec, screen is black but keyboard is lighting. I guess it adopts to the new memory. Other restarts are fast as usually.
And this is what is seen by the system.
So main thing is that cpu-z shows it as still 2666 Mhz while it can read Jedec and Xmp profiles with proper 3200 Mhz. Predator Sense shows 3200 Mhz but it is most probably because of it reads from profile not real frequency. I will run benchmark soon to get know exactly what is real bandwidth.1 -

Well so I can finally officially confirm that
both 1-rank 1x8Gb Hyperx DDR4-3200 or 2-rank 1x16Gb Hyperx DDR4-3200 will not work at 3200 Mhz speed
They run fine at 2660 Mhz but not 3200, unfortunately
So that’s it1 -
This is it, it works at 3200 now
