Overheating CPU reaching 100 degrees max, should I get it to the service center?

I bought an Acer Predator Helios 300 i5 8th gen, 16 gb RAM, GTX 1060 6 GB in December 2018 with 1 year extended warranty..
I've used it a lot for gaming. But recently after constant hours of gaming, I noticed that Predator Sense is showing 95-100 degree Celsius as CPU temperature. The GPU has a max between 80-90.
This occurred when I was playing Far Cry New Dawn.

Around 25% CPU usage, the CPU temperature is between 63-69 degrees.

Should I worry about issues with thermal paste and get my laptop to an Acer center?
Would applying a thermal paste on my own void the warranty?

@gottabeDC have you optimized windows /undervolted if so you fans might need to be cleaned and probably repasted  its recommended to repaste once per year all gaming laptops when constantly heavy used for long periods of time u stated you extended your warranty so send it to acer warranty repair for a repaste and clean the fans but first ask them if they would use the thermal paste you want if you bought it and send it with the laptop (alwasy backup everything you need before send anything to warranty u never know what might happen just an advice tough :) ) if they say the they wont mind i would buy kryonaut or similar and send it to them to be applied hope o get it sorted because thats why warranty paid extensions are for i myself extended for 3 years technically its 2 only because the 1st year ITW also counts as extended unfortunately

It's more than likely there is a collection of hair and dust within the heatsink blocking airflow and preventing cooling. I game frequently on my laptop and every few months disassemble and clean it out. Sure enough, every time there is a nice thick formation of dust and hair between the fans and heatsink. The joy of living with animals.

Disassembling the laptop does indeed void the warranty. If you paid extra for an extended warranty, I would consider that. The unfortunate thing with warranty service is you must ship the laptop on your own dime to Acer, and then wait. I much prefer doing the job myself, for free, immediately.
  • This is the temperature table considered acceptable for your model:

In this case, I agree with colleagues about replacing the thermal grease and cleaning the fans!

I actually reached out and all they did was give me a link and asked me to update bios and drivers. So that was useless.
Is there any safe way to clean the laptop without voiding the warranty?

Anyway, I reset the values XTU and uninstalled it.
Installed ThrottleStop, undervolted by 160.2 Volts. (i.e. -160.2)

I've also installed MSI Afterburner but I'm not sure what frequency I should limit GPU to, maybe 1700MHz?

Without disassembling it and voiding the warranty (in some countries you are able to) you only have one option its compressed air spray bottle regarding the gpu undervolt check the predator fb group or the hotel hero youtube channel in my signature you will find gpu curve undervolting videos there also @sri369 has some threads in here with the instructions how to do it, if after all this you still have thermal issues i suggest a repaste send it to acer and ask for a repaste also remember to ask them if they would be able to use the paste you want if you would send it to them with the laptop if so i would recommend kryonaut or similar also always backup everything you need before sending any anything to warranty as they might just end up by repair/replacing something or even factory reset it u never know

So I can take my own thermal paste for them to apply. How is Corsair TM30 compared to Thermal Grizzly's Kryonaut?
  • If you ask technical support if they can replace the thermal paste, they will probably do it!

So I followed the instructions for XTU undervolting. I can see a minor improvement. But still the max temp reaches 97 degrees. Should I contact acer again?
  • Did they actually apply the thermal compound you shipped with the notebook? What is the uefi firmware version? You can check this information at the acer care center!

I had ordered the paste. The service center sent an engineer to my house who applied the paste in front of my eyes.

However the max 97 is only reached when I actually use heavy graphics. Is such high temperature normal for such usage? At least I'm not getting any blue screens anymore. The idle temperatures between 0-3% CPU usage are between 57-59 degrees.
The temperature when I'm typing this ina
  • I consider this temperature high! Are you using the notebook on a cooler cradle?

I suspect the thermal paste was badly applied i applied kryonaut myself and my temps went down 25+ after optimizing/undervolting everything over 90 its not acceptable what is acceptable in high demanding games its from 75/85 and 85 its already almost hitting the limits before throttling
