Aspire F5-573 F Keys Doing The Wrong Thing?

Anybody had this problem?

Originally was trying to disable the keyboard backlight using Fn+F9, but it wasn't working.  After some googling, I tried one of those "keyboard test" websites; pressing the F keys produces the wrong result.  Pressing F4 causes the "home" key to light up on the test site, pressing F5 causes the up key to light up, pressing F6 causes "page up" to light up, etc...

I tried uninstalling the keyboard from Device Manager and reinstalling, to no avail.

Help!  Thanks.

F2 into the BIOS menu on startup. Check the Main tab for any FN key options. If none, press F10 to save settings and exit. Jack E/NJ

Thanks for your reply Jack!  No options for FN keys, or any keys for that matter, in the bios.  If you have any other suggestions I'm all ears.

Other than an unresponsive FN+F9 combo, what other keys aren't working as expected disregarding the online KB test (which often mean little or nothing). For instance, in notepad what happens when you press the F4 key vs the UpArrow key . And for something maybe unexpected, what happens when you press F5 key in notepad? Jack E/NJ

Hmm... well none of the FN combos (with the F keys), work at all.  However, the FN key itself does in fact work, because it works for the  volume/brightness toggles on the arrow keys.

As for you other clever diagnostics, in notepad the F5 key moves the cursor up to the next line of text (same as up arrow key), and F4 makes it go to the beginning of the same line of text.  F7 makes a * symbol.  F8 moves the cursor one letter at a time, to the left, F10 the opposite.  F11 makes a - symbol.  What da heck lol.

    Thanks again for your knowledge.

My F5 key gives the following in notepad      "2:12 PM 5/22/2019"         . On the ACER site my F5 refreshes the webpage. Really depends on what app you're using, browser and BIOS firmware. That's why the online KB test doesn't mean too much as far as Fn and/or Fx key behavior as well as a few other special keys that you don't normally find on your typical SmithCorona, RemingtonRand or Selectric . :)

I think you're main issue is the unresponsive FN+F9 toggle key combo. Since it's stuck in the on position, that rules out a loose or disconnected separate KB backlight connector. Is your ControlPanel power plan set to maximum performance instead of balanced or power saver?
