Acer Predator G9-593 sata drive overheating and being dismounted by Intel Rapid Storage Technology

Hi, I've been using my Predator 15 for about a year now.
About a month ago my SATA drive was showing randomly occurring 10-20 seconds 100% usage and I couldn't find the cause. Launching Task Man, Explorer during that time would make them unresponsive. Media playing during that time, which are located on that drive would also make the media player unresponsive. After about a week of this, the drive started to be dismounted and a few days after that, even restarting the PC wouldn't mount the drive.
I swapped in an old drive and it was working fine for a few days, until today when it got overheated and was dismounted. The first drive that wouldn't mount back worked just fine when I connected it to a SATA to USB connector and wasn't as hot to the touch as it was when connected to the laptop's SATA connector.
I bought the laptop through newegg and had it shipped to My country. So sending it to the retailer isn't an option. I don't understand the problem, is it the SATA connector? Or is it something else? Could anyone help me out here

  • On the disk staying at 100% for a short period of time, it's normal! What is not normal is the disk staying at 100% all the time! About the fact that the disk is being dismantled by IRST, have you already updated the program on the intel website? Also, are you using a ssd m2 or an optane memory?

    1. The short 100% is correlated to media player playing media becoming unresponsive, same for starting new windows of Explorer and Task Man. As well as the disk itself overheating.
    2. I am not sure if mine version of IRST is the latest, but I have been using it for over a year with any problem until the last couple of weeks.
    3. I am infact, 2 m.2 nVME in OEM raid 0 as my primary drive. They also have a separate inaccessible partition for the drivers and OEM software.
  • When you said "Acer Predator G9-593 sata drive overheating", did you mean that the processor, the gpu or ssd m2 is overheating? If it is ssd m2, have you checked if there is any firmware available for upgrade? What is the exact model of ssd m2?

I thought it was self explanatory, the SATA drive is the mechanical Hard Disk Drive. None of the things you mentioned.
  • Have you tried updating IRST to see if it solved the problem?

I did, doesn't look like it did anything.
  • Does the problem still occur when you uninstall irst?

Might be a faulty drive if its heating so much but it doesnt seems to me thats the issue usually the sata drives dont have any heating issues never had any issues with any they run really hot sometimes i am guessing the issue its in the raid array might be half broken/buggy this is why i would never use raid 0 (only if really necessary and with proper compatible drives) its a nightmare if something fails you are screwed everything is lost and bare in mind that to work in raid 0 it has to be 2 drives from the same size and if possible model m.2 with sata in raid 0 doesnt convince me at all even if the drives were from the same size as i said raid 0 its too risky
