Hi, I am planning to add a SSD to my aging laptop to function as boot drive, but I am not sure what kind of SSD is compatible with my laptop. I do not want to replace my HDD, but to use it as storage. I've did some reading but the more reading I did, the more confused I get. So I decided to ask the community about this. Thank you for reading.

Note: My friend works in WD, so I'm leaning towards getting a WD SSD for a cheaper price :)

Edit: If I decide to add RAM for my laptop, would a Corsair Vengeance SODIMM 8GB work?

Yes, anything equal to or higher frequency than what you have in there now should work just fine. Jack E/NJ

You can add a WD m.2 SSD SATA3 card. It can accept up to 16GB DDR4L RAM 2133MHz or greater speed in each slot unless you have an earlier model with DDR3L RAM 1600MHz or greater. You can check your RAM type with Speccy sysinfo freeware. The Corsair should match the RAM type you have in there now Jack E/NJ

Thank you JackE. It's a very good reference. Is there a maximum size capacity for the SSD that I'm installing? I've read somewhere that someone bought a 512GB SSD to add but the BIOS said that the motherboard only allows a 240GB SSD. I'm sorry but I couldn't find the link anymore. The motherboard I have is the Ironman_SK.

The specs list the 256GB as the largest m.2 SSD card available from ACER but the BIOS may accept a full 512GB card anyway. Some SSD card manufacturers have their own software to overcome any BIOS limitations like this. You might ask your friend if WD has such software if you decide to go for something bigger than 256GB m.2 card. Jack E/NJ

Alright. One last thing, just to be sure, if I get a 8GB 2666 MHz RAM my laptop will still be able to run properly right?
