I have Acer  - Nitro 5 AN515-42 AMD version.
Does anyone have a tried-and-tested Linux on this computer model and whether they work well for games and everything else, whether the drivers are working properly.

    Good Morning Kiko_MKD !

Are you experienced with Linux distributions?
What is your need to use a Linux distro?

It is perfectly possible to install any distribution on your model.
As for the drivers, maybe some are owners, but nothing that prevents you from writing them by hand via the command line.

As for games, most of the current ones are not supported by Linux, and should be run via VM.

If you are not familiar with it, I advise you to use a live version in order to better understand the system.

Yeah works, but Acer got a FIRMWARE bug, you have to manually edit GRUB file and put behind every quiet splash entry "acpi=noirq pci=noacpi ivrs_ioapic[4]=00:14.0 ivrs_ioapic[5]=00:00.2" or it won't boot.
    "
There is a firmware problem with internal routing and memory tables. This fix applies to all AN515-42 models with latest BIOS."

I use Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. For this only pci=noacpi is all I need to boot. Since bios 1.12 my touch pad is not working anymore. It did work before but others reported that it worked only some times before and after the update. Also updating to bios 1.12 forced me to reinstall ubuntu. Before reinstall booting took way longer and no external display was working.

Down side of pci=noacpi is that battery drops way faster at light load and the laptop doesn't wake up after sleep. Beside that It works pretty good. I read that some got it to work with arch linux without pci=noacpi. Unfortunatelly I couldn't get arch linux to run at all when I first started, but than again this is my first linux laptop.

Also you need at least bios 1.09. Older bios versions caused crashes.

Also Mesa 18.x.x driver for graphic cards work pretty well. I use 18.3.3 atm.

    Acer Nitro 5 AMD Ryzen 5 4000 NVIDIA 1650TI

Did a vanilla install of Ubuntu 20.
    Updtate, upgrade
Install ukuu or other way of getting the latest kernel.
I went for the latest 5.8.3 kernel.
    Then add the graphics ppa
Install the 450 (shows as open source)driver via driver manager (correct for the 1650Ti , 1650 is 440 driver)
Check that prime status shows nvidia
    Modify /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-nvidia.conf

    add
    Option "PrimaryGPU" "yes"

I also disabled wayland as a tip from another post I found so the display runs in X.
    and it worked.

Kernel works fine with the AMD board with no parameters, but I have IOMMU disabled in BIOS, apparently it should work now with 5.8 so maybe going to try after playing a bit more.

Now install Steam and force all titles to use steam play compat.
    World of Warships
    CS GO
    Path of Exile
    Dota etc
most work unless a game uses some anti cheat engine which has problems in wine

    Enjoy
