Hi,

Since a few weeks I have the acer swift 3 SF315-52G.
The laptop functions fine for my daily school work.
but I have problems with the battery of the device.

When device goes in to sleep mode it somethimes doesn't want to turn on (2 times happened).
Than I press the on/off button together with the volume up/down for 30 seconds, because this helped by my previous laptop.
Than I waited for 30 seconds and try to turn it on.
The first time this functioned, but yesterday it didn't.
After a few hours the undersite of the device was very hot, while it was not turned on.
Also I have to mention that the orange light for the battery is all time on even if I'm not charging.
After 4 hours or so the light went out and I tried to recharge it.
I let it charge for 30 minutes and after that was my finale attempt to turn it on and it worked.

After this incident I searched the web for this problem and find out that I'm not the only one.
After reading some forums a employee of the company replied and said that you had to update the bios software.
But on tech forums I read that if the device functions fine, you don't want to update the bios.
I still don't know what I have to do with it.
- Do I need to take precaution and send it to the care center to check on it?
- Do I have to update my bios?
- Can I continue with what I have right now?

Can someone give me some advice about my current situation.

p.s I still have a valid guarantee for the device.

    Good Morning Spooky15 !

Let's make sure your battery is properly updated and calibrated to exclude physical problems.
    Please perform the following procedures:

    CALIBRATION AND BATTERY RESET

First, disable Quick Start in the power options and disconnect the notebook from the power outlet.

    BATTERY CONTROLLER RESET
Access the device manager and look for the "acpi-compatible control method battery driver" and "microsoft AC adapter" and give it up.
Then restart the notebook for Windows to reinstall and remove any errors.

    Process to reset the battery

        Disconnect the power adapter.
Locate the hole to reset the battery in the bottom of the computer.
He inserted a small clip into the hole. Hold the reset button for 05 seconds.
Let the computer rest for 5 minutes without power.
Plug in the power adapter and turn on the system.

The button is the type that is identified in the photo.

    External Battery Pack

If your notebook has an external battery, proceed as follows:
1- Unplug the appliance from the mains and then disconnect the battery.
2- Press the power button for thirty seconds, so that the static power is dissipated.
3 - Replace the battery and turn the unit on.

    Process for calibrating the battery

For this, you must turn off the device and give a 100% charge.
Then unplug and use the battery until the battery runs out.
    Reload it as before.
Repeat the process 3 times so that all cells are fully calibrated.

    Thx for the quick response.
Before I will do the steps as described I want to ask one more question.
Can I use the device when it´s charging / discharing during the calibration time?

    Good Morning !

If you are referring to this process below:

    ""
    Process for calibrating the battery

For this, you must turn off the device and give a 100% charge.
Then unplug and use the battery until the battery runs out.

    Yes you can.
The more you use, the faster the process will be performed.
Use for something like videos on youtube or something that helps consume the most energy.

Sleep mode issue  can be fixed by updating bios to 1.07.

Thanks for this post. I have a similar issue - my Swift 3 laptop's battery keeps "Estimating" and does not get charged - if I remove AC plug, the laptop just dies. I tried the suggested reset of battery - albeit without uninstalling ACPI tool because I'm running Ubuntu 18 and don't have device manager - and nothing has changed: still battery shows as Estimating, and it's still not charging. I have only used this laptop for a bit over a year, which seems too soon for battery to be bad and needing replacement. I wonder if there are any ideas anyone has what I can attempt in order to fix it. Thanks!

When you performed the reset, did you follow the full procedure with wait times? You should disconnect all power, press the reset button for 15-30 seconds, wait for 15-30 minutes before plugging power back in then wait until the battery indicator shows full charge before turning it back on. If the reset doesn't help try a calibration. You run it on battery until the system shuts down due to low battery, then charge it fully while leaving it off, then repeat a couple of times. I think it likely that Ubuntu doesn't yet have full support for the battery, so you may have to plan on doing a reset/recalibration every year or so.
