If there is data being accessed on the drive, yes.

No, there is no acces to the drive, " I know that it is normal for the light to flash if the drive is accesed"

If I look in task manager the drive acces stay at 0% and the light is continuously flashing.

If I only start the machine and stay at the beginning screen without login in, the light keep on flashing on the hard drive.

Task Manager is not going to give you the best view of what activity is actually occuring.

When you open Task manager, go to the Performance tab and click on the button at the bottom, Resource Manager.

In Resource Manager, click on the Disk tab.

This will show you wnat processes have Disk Activity and give you a graphical representation as well.

You may not think there is anything accessing the drive, but Windows has programs that run continually and use disk space.

Usually, it's going to be System and svchost.exe at a minimum.

I did verify that there was nothing accessing the disk, for more then 60 seconds I notice that the disk was not accessed in the system monitor but the led of the disk was still flashing at the same rate. This machine is using a UEFI between the BIOS end the OS; so I believe that this layer is the one causing the flashing of t he HD led. But to be honest I am not fully sure. If it is a chip to chip communication, I do not really care; it will not cause premature hardware problems. Mechanical unit get used more than intended to.
