Gateway G380 F1 - is it the same as Acer AR380 F1???

Hi.

Our school has acquired a couple of Gateway GR380 F1 servers as part of the 2012 Olympics legacy programme. They came with no manuals or support CDs, and I've been unable to find anything online. Not a mention on the Gateway website.

Now, whilst I can load Windows Server on both of them, it would be rather nice to be able to update firmware, BIOS, etc if I need to.

As Acer owns the Gateway brand, and the Acer AR380 F1 looks spookily similar to the Gateway GR380 F1, and firmware, BIOS etc are sitting happily on the Acer site waiting to be downloaded, the obvious question is, are these models the same and the BIOS and firmware interchangeable?

I have just seen your comment regards the GR380 servers. Although these are the same as the Acer AR380F1 server models, the BIOS and BMC revisions are different, and you will need to load the correct versions.

We are the only UK distributor for the Gateway and Acer server brand

Thanks for your response Acer-Fletcher but neither the Acer or Gateway site lists this model.

When I enter the SNID or serial number on the Acer site it returns "Could not find your model. Please try to search by category." (The numbers were entered correctly and the number zero used, not letter O).

The Gateway US site (I'm in the UK but couldn't find a Gateway UK site) allows me to select GR380 F1 but, when I do, the 'Enter a model name' section simply closes. Similarly, when I enter the SNID or serial number on the Gateway US site, the section closes without giving any further choices other than selecting from a product list that doesn't include this server.

Neither site appears to list the GR380 F1 (I've tried several Gateway country sites in the absence of a UK one).

Thanks for your reply JDITechnology. Useful to know. By extension, if the BIOS and BMC revisions between these models are different, does this mean the firmware might be the same?
