I bought Helios 300 in US and having some issues, would India service centres be able to help? Problem is I installed secondary HDD and it's not detecting anywhere both in bios and disc manager. Might be a faulty SATA cable, can this be fixed in India or I need to ship it back to US

  • Hi,
Could you please post the full model name of the laptop and the HDD you are trying to install, like PHxxx-xx and whether the HDD is a M.2 SSD, you may have to contact Acer Support in India to get an answer whether they can honour the warranty for your laptop,

  • Is hd not identified in the bios information section?

Yes it's not identified in the bios aswell, the model number is ph315-51. Secondary hardrive is not an SSD. I also tried changing sata type to ahci from rst optane. Didn't work.

I guess service centre is the only option left.

Also the HDD is a 2tb 2.5 inch Seagate SATA
  • You can disconnect the hd and reconnect it again!

  • The hd may just be badly connected on the sata port!

It could be in RAID setup, could you please check in BIOS whether you have the option to change to AHCI. I think you can switch from RST with Optane to AHCI in Main tab.

Tried changing it to AHCi, still can't see the drive. Does AHCI needs a different driver?

Can you head the drive spinning when you connect it if this is the case im almost sure it's either the sata cable or the mobo port itself that's faulty also can u try the hdd on usb with an adapter/enclosure or try it on any other computer just to check if it's really working just to rule it out

The issue here is the hdd has to get recognized by the bios it doesn't matter has nothing to do with RST the intel RST its currently used on laptops for ssd raid 0 only even if RTS had converted your hdd on windows you would still be able to detect it as normal hdd on bios so if you are not detecting on the bios has nothing to do with RST as i said test the hdd either on an usb adapter/enclosure/dock or in another pc to rule it out

yeah xapim is correct. test this hdd in another m/c or external usb case.
if it works there properly that means hdd hs ok and the problem is in ur m/c.
post here the result of the test. only then further debugging will be done.

  • Did you connect the hd to the notebook again to see if it is recognized?

Yeah I tried that, but it's still not showing up anywhere
  • So if only your notebook is not recognizing the hd, it could be some problem on the controller or the sata cable!

A little late on the update, the issue was with the sata cable. The connection was loose, just had to remove and reconnect on the board.
