Hi everyone,
Just need your opinion first before buying an upgrade for my laptop. Here are the specs and model:
AN515-42-R8HN Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2500U (Quad-Core, up to 2MB L2 Cache, up to 4MB L3 Cache, 2.0GHz to 3.60GHz) Memory: 4GB DDR4 Video Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 560X 4GB GDDR5 Display: 15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) LED, IPS Panel Anti-glare, Ultra-slim Design Storage: 1TB HDD 5400rpm Optical Drive: None Keyboard: Backlit Numpad: Yes Wireless Connectivity: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Ports: 1x Type-C USB 3.1 Gen1, 1x USB 3.0, 2x USB 2.0, RJ-45, HDMI, Card Reader, Combo Audio Jack Color: Black Dimensions: 390 x 266 x 26.75 mm (WxDxH) Weight: 2.70 kg Battery: 15.2V 48Wh 4 Cells, 135W Adapter
Just need clarification in SSD type and model on what should be the better device to buy. And also I'm planning set the Operating System on SSD because they said it will remove the 100% disk usage issue in windows 10. I have no idea in SSD and many in my FB group said it should be M.2 and I can still use the 1TB HDD for the secondary drive? Please give me much details advice so that I will not buy the wrong item. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
You can use a DDR4 PC4-19200 modules for memory upgrade, as for the M.2 SSD, you can install a M.2 SATA SSD and use it as a boot drive, use the 1TB HDD for additional storage.
compatible models are in this link:https://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Acer/nitro-5-an515-42

Hi,
If you have 2666MHz memory installed, get a module with matching speed. Crucial has advertised 2666MHz module as compatible.

Hi,
You have to use M.2 SATA SSD, so far nobody has succeeded in installing a M.2 NVMe SSD, please read this thread:https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/556062/does-my-nitro-5-an515-42-support-m-2-nvme-ssd

Hi @brummyfan2,
For the RAM, I have checked the default installed has a 4GB 2666Mhz, is it okay if I will buy the 8GB 2400 together with the 4GB 2666? It will function together and no problem later like it does not match ram speed like that? Sorry, I'm not familiar with the hardware and I'm very thankful for the advice that you will give me guys.0 -

Hi @brummyfan2,
I have read a lot of posts here and correct me if I'm wrong. Is there a two type of M.2? The M.2 NVMe and the M.2 SSD? Which is confusing to me what should I buy for the other SSD slot in my laptop model? Can you give me again another advice for this one?
My original plan is still using the SSD as the boot drive and 1TB HDD for the secondary drive.0 -
