Greetings! Over the last couple of weeks my laptops performancehad dropped drastically. I thought it happened due to malware since I couldn't find any other reason after doing my research and decided to reset me laptop to factory settings. Unfortunately, it didn't help. I then stumbled accross Hotel Hero's yputube channel who, I think goes under Red Sand on the forum, and followed his guides on windows optimization and undervolting. It all was going well untill it didn't :D I have no clue why but undervoltiong didn't do anything to decrease the temperatures, my cpu usage is 100% whenever I play anything demanding and the laptop stutters and even turns off. I have managed to get rid of restarts by rolling back the ThrottleStop settings, but I think I have messed something up and don't know how to undo it.
Here are my settings and other shananigans

.

Important things to note. The laptop was repasted 6 months ago and is always standing on an external cooling bad. Regardless, even afterr undervolting my temps go through the roof and reasch 96-98 on both CPU and GPU. CPU also is often at 100% usage rate when playing demanding games, not sure of thats how it supposed to be. Any help would be appreciated! As you might have noticed, my knowledge in this field is pretty limited and if there is anyone that has any idea what might fix my issue, please add me on discord  Xpym_#0428

u have some missing tabs in that power  settings...
are u running on ac adapter?

your core in the game ar running terribly slow.. 2.7ghz max and judjing from the scren u only have 2 active core (and 4 logical core.. thats explain why u see only 4 rows in throttlestop)... your 7700hq it's running at half of his power...
u have 74 degree in windows idle?! man there is something very wrong with it..
what kind of acer laptop is it?..

contact me on discord and see if i can help u directly.. i'm at work atm cannot speak but we can chat faster

Alright, thank you very much to everyone that took their time to respond to this thread. I will describe the issue in case somebody else will run into it. What Keicchan had discovered after seeing on of the screenshots taken from HWmonitor was that not all cores were utilized and working. In order to fix it, I had to go into Msconfig -> Boot -> Advanced

For me, the checkbox "Number of processors" was checked and 4 was selected. Simply unchecking fixed the issue.

disable BD PROCHOT and work on downvolt a lot more.. keeping it paired from cache and core u can use for sure -140mv.. if u are lucky u can stay stable at -160 and in rare case -170 (cache it's the real limit), if u do not keep them paired core can go down more than double.

set your speed shift - EPP to 0 and never use "save immediatly" untill u tested everything under differents load scenario...

sometimes having and xtu profile and use throttlestop can bring to some problems, some configuration can become "stock" or "defaults" for one or the other when they are not.. uninstall xtu after reset everything; do a restart and than set throttlestop.

my throttlestop settings and hwmonitor with your same cpu in a triton 700 (no bios unlocked)

    repasted today with grizzly

just to clarify.. disable BD PROCHOT if u are running in thermal throttling and thermal issues it's not a good thing.. before that fix your temps..(and work more on the downvolt too) never reached 98 degre on a table this summer with aida64 making the cpu sit on 100% on my thin laptop.. are u sure that repaste and heatsink are applied/screwed properly?

what kind of game are u running that bring the cpu on 100% utilization?! it's quite insane and frankly weird too..

In terms of repasting I'm pretty sure it was well made, because I did it in a specialized store. Is there a reason why i have only 4 lines in main menu of throttlestop? I do not understand why PROCHOT 96C and throttle indicator is always on, even though i havent seen them ON in any guides and i have no clue what to do. I am playing CoD BO4 which I've heard has terrible optimization however It was playable couple weeks ago and this is why I reinstalled my system after problems started happening and i couldntfind any malware or viruses. Unfortunately, as you can probably tell my knowledge in this area is extremely limited and i hope i havent messed anything up. I literally have my CPU working on 100% in menus

Also, these undervolt values seem insanely massive. I havent seen values anywhere cloasto that in countless amount of guides and videos that ive seen. I am really afraid of breaking my laptop  :#

My 7700 does not like to go more than 138. I have mine set stable at 125.

Check the background process, and also the option if MS is using your laptop as a distribution node to service updates to laptops near your location. This would be under "update" option in control panel.

    Default your BIOs.

On bootup hit F2 to enter BIOs > F9 to default it > F10 to save and exit.

    Report back the differences.

@Red-Sand Greetings! After the reset and without applying any changes to voltage, my temps are as follows. Under 20-25% CPU usage when idle, or with base application and firefox, CPU is on 69C and GPU is on 64C.

This is how throttle stop looks after bios reset. I dont think anything has changed to be honest. It really bothers me that i havent seen these settings anywhere online, i have no clue what they mean or how to revert them.

man, can i have a screenshot of your system in hwmonitor, install it and open it before launch the game than sent a screen about it after a bit..

what it's strange to me it's that: you are running at 1200mhz/1300mhz of clock with 67c degree at the moment u make that screenshot... i would be great to have the variance of your core clock speed over time (in hwmonitor u can have min-max and actual value registered that would help a lot..

if u are running 1200mhz on all the core as max speed yeah probably u are at 100% utilization and cpu it's bottlenecking...

if is that the case u have to figure out why your cpu it's limited that way... (power limited? maybe) if u resetted your bios settings already we can eliminate some variables from the equation.. if u click the Limit button there are some yellow alert/limit on the cpu? (send screenshot).

about the downvolt i cannot totally agree.. 6700hq and 7700hq cpu can easly run -140 for almost the 80% of the chips that mean -140 cache and -140core... but if u work on in a little u will find that the limit it's the cache downvolt itself and not the core one... to make an example in xtu u cannot undervolt the two things separatly and u will be stuck with the lower of the two (cache limit).  Sometimes follow strictly a guide and do things without futher investigate, knowing the meaning of what u move and set put the user at some straight point without trully test or discover the possibility of the hardware (easy way.. open a guide, put the value as shown and save).. that have some limitation for sure :)

another thing.. this is your first screenshot... why is his cache ratio at 8?! that mean it's running at 8x100mhz?! O.o and the pc it's not sleeping...

it's looks to me that  your system it's running in low power mode as if the pc it's in sleep mode... (no hypertreading and lowpower on the core)

let go take a look at your power saving settings for the cpu state...

in english it's power options (advanced options), this is mine with the gaming profile (italian)

Small update. Decided to check whether it was bad optimization within COD and downloaded Fortnite, On lowest settings with FPS capped to 60 my cpu temps are 94C and its pretty choppy. Tried capping it to 120, hoever  it stays in the range of 70-90 with frequent drops.

Here are the HWmonitor screenshots. After resetting the bios I have rolled back all of the settings in Throttlestop, but i feel like when i try to change them now they have no impact on CPU temperature.

This screenshot was taken when the system is idle with basic windows app and firefox open.

This one is during CoD BO4

here i found some troubleshooting regarding something similar to your case.. cpu utilization 100%, clock reduced to 1200mhz and power state tabs missing... give it a try

This happened to me after I installed Hyper-V on my computer. Apparently, you cannot use these advanced options and Hyper-V at the same time. I went to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off and disabled Hyper-V.

After rebooting, everything is back to normal.

  • Keicchan! Click the windows mobility center and then select the high performance option:

I usually use this code in cmd as administrator to enable the "max performance": powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61
I also usually use this file to enable or disable the turbo boost: https://jmiller.com/sp4-regfiles/processor_performance_boost_mode.zip from the site https://www.reddit.com/r/Surface/comments/47qczd/how_to_disable_intel_turbo_boost_to_improve/

Alright, thank you very much to everyone that took their time to respond to this thread. I will describe the issue in case somebody else will run into it.
