So I've had my computer about 8 months now, it froze, I hard reset it it gave me the bsod, so I tried running sfc scan and chkdsk, after a few of those no luck it turned off now says no bootable device, I boot into bios and sometimes the drive shows up and sometimes it doesn't it only shows up on boot order if I'm in legacy, but won't boot anyways, I'm stumped

BIOS must be set to UEFI bootstrapping. The HDD cable or m.2 SSD card, whichever your system booted from, likely needs to be re-seated a few times to clean its contacts. You can access these connectors by removing one screw and panel on the bottom of the laptop. Jack E/NJ

Yes, I have tried this, it's weird the only time I can boot from a USB drive is to be in legacy mode, I updated bios successfully with a USB stick but still same issue, no bootable device found, I created a Windows install USB stick and that won't even pop up, I can't access the drive to rewrite the mbr or nothing, the drive spins fine, sounds fine, no noises or clicks

You've tried what? Reseat a 2.5" HDD connector? Or an m.2 SSD card? Which one was it?

Also, a USB stick must be GPT-partitioned to be seen by a UEFI bootstrapper. You have an MBR-partitioned stick. You must use Rufus freeware to GPT partition and FAT32 format the stick.

Finally, I would not try to install a Microsoft generic Win10 version from a USB stick until you've tried to re-set the machine again to the ACER specific Win10 version by using the ALT+F10 cold boot method shown below. If it still fails to reset, then re-try it at least one more time.

Thanks Jack really appreciate the help, I tried reseating the drive, as that's what it boots from, I'll give it another try don't know what a m.2 ssd card is, my appoligies, I have tried the recovery but the machine won't recognize a drive, so the only things I get under recovery are command prompt, system restore, roll back windows, and each one gives me an error, I created the USB stick with the micrisoft utility, I'll try the Rufus one next, pc is still under warranty but I'm trying to hold off on shipping it in case I can recover my files and get it booted!

Yes, this sounds like the HDD has failed, is failing, or the original "hard reset" has somehow messed with its GPT partitioning scheme. Even if Win10 can be successfully re-installed, I don't think you should trust this particular HDD.

The m.2 SSD card was another storage and booting option for this machine. Sounds like you got the HDD option.

Ohhhhh ok I got ya, I was also thinking failure, might have to just send it away and hope for the best even if I'm on command prompt and run diskpart nothing shows up and bios will only recognize the drive if I'm in legacy mode if I'm in uefi it will say widows boot manager under boot devices, it won't say the actual drive or USB controllers, nothing

Hold on! You said earlier that you can't get to the command prompt without an error. If you can in fact get to an x:\> prompt and enter diskpart to get to it > prompt, then you simply enter the command "list disk" at the > prompt to see what you've got. Jack E/NJ

My mistake, I meant to say that command prompt was the only one not giving me an error BUT once I'm in there and type disk part, nothing shows but 0 0 0 but yesterday I had it show up as c drive, recovery drive until I was trying to diagnose the bsod and ran sfc scan but it said something about windows resource protection, I also ran chkdsk and it found nothing , then this no bootable device happened and sometimes shows in the bios, and only windows boot manager under boot options

    >>>disk part, nothing shows but 0 0 0 >>>

You meant diskpart, not disk part,  right? After entering diskpart, only a diskpart> prompt should show. You then enter "list disk" without the quotes and get something like shown below. Please take a screenshot of the result if possible. Jack E/NJ

Sorry, yes meant diskpart, nothing shows, took the drive out popped it into my desktop Sata port, freezes the desktop at logo screen tried that 10 times, no go, tried all 4 Sata ports, there's definitely an issue with this drive and Acer warranty department is a nightmare to deal with, anyone have experience with it? . I've talked to 5 different people and got 5 different answers between Costco (where I purchased) and Acer, they said they were sending me a pre paid label to my email, it's been 48 hours for that, I've got homework todo on my laptop and tried just taking it back and switching it out and even paying the difference for an upgraded model but noone knew who could authorize that so I'm still waiting  just curious if anyone ekse has dealt with there warranty department

Yeah, looks like you must send it back for a warranty repair. It's usually a vendor discretion to do an exchange on a defective system for a pricier model. However, if you've got personal data on the HDD, you might want try to get it off or even try to repair the HDD from your desktop with a USB to SATA cable adapter. That way you can boot the desktop first and then connect the HDD and try to either read it or repair it from the booted desktop. The adapters a less than $10. Jack E/NJ

Thank you! That won't make me lose the warranty would it? Although there is no warranty sticker on the bottom anywhere. And I did take the drive out once, put it back in
