Hello,

I have an Acer brand N15Q10 Chromebook.

The screen is not working.

I connected an HDMI cable and connected it to a screen.  It mirrored and the computer part of the Chromebook is absolutely fine.

I power washed the Chromebook, hoping that it could be have been something that was disabled.  It didn't work.

So, now, I believe I either have a screen or a screen controller that isn't working.  Are their any other possibilities that could be fixed via setup?

If not, and I'm guessing that is the case, what should/can I do?

Any answers appreciated.

Regards.

Abdallah

If you were able to Powerwash, the screen must be working intermittently, so you don't have a completely black screen. I think your device powers on, even when you have a black screen.  Try a Chrome OS reinstall because there are times when a reinstall will work when a Powerwash does not.
It is not clear what you mean by "mirrored" when you connected the external monitor to the Chromebook.  If you mean that that there is an image intermittently on the external monitor, that does not exclude other hardware problems besides a failing laptop screen.
    Other troubleshooting suggestions:
    1) Internal battery reset.
    2) Check for a loose screen connection as demonstrated in the video below.
    3) When you get a black screen & you shine a bright light on it, if you are able to see a faint image; then the backlight is failing. If the backlight is failing, replacing the inverter is difficult; therefore the solution would be to replace the screen whether the backlight or the screen is failing.

    Hi @ahigazy,

Since you tried with external monitor and did a power wash already, it looks like its a hardware prob. The back light or display is corrupted. Is the unit under the warranty?

I would like to add that the screen is NOT cracked.

    Hello @christy1

Thank you for your response.  Unfortunately, no.  This is a two year old device.  :'(

What you said was my guess.  Is there any way to tell if it is a back light or screen issue?

BTW, I'm not to this.  It was telling me to click on "accept" if your answer was "useful".  I clicked on "like", but I have no idea where "accept" is.

Accept marks the question as answered and gives a few points of kudos to the person who provided the answer. If the backlight is bad you'll still be able to see the contents of the screen, very dimly. Hold it up close and see if anything is showing through. Once you know which problem it is, backlight or display, we can come up with some troubleshooting to further diagnose.

before we could confirm it as a hardware issue. Try hard reset. Make sure to remove the power cable and press and hold Refresh Key + power button for 10-15sec. ( Note: doing this would erase any offline or downloads data ) Make sure to backup your files.

if the device still does not turn on then we can confirm it to be a hardware issue. Regardless to the warranty you can still contact the manufacturer for help. there might be cost involved. However, i would say i would worth a try.

If all the above measures fail to resolve the problem, checking the RAM is beyond the ability of most users; because it's soldered to the motherboard, as demonstrated in the video below.  At this point, professional help is required.
