Hello everybody, my laptop has a 17.3" 1600x900 resolution TN panel with pretty bad viewing angles. I'd like to replace it with a FullHD IPS one. Using the Monitor Asset Manager program I was able to identify my screen's model number. I looked it up on panelook.com and the specs I see seem to be correct, according to them my panel has a 30 pin eDP 1 lane connector. From what I found online (and on this website, specifically 3 threads: 123) I need a 2 lane eDP cable in order to get a 60Hz FullHD panel to work, so if my laptop already has a 2 lane cable I'm set and I only need to find a compatible panel, while if it has a 1 lane cable I need to change the cable too (and in this case, will my motherboard support the 2 lane cable? How can I find out?). My questions are:
  1. How did the people in the third thread I linked find out how many lanes that laptop's cable had?
  2. Since there are configurations of the Acer E5-771G that come with a FullHD screen, can I safely assume that my laptop has a 2 lane eDP cable, and/or the motherboard supports a 2 lane eDP cable?
  3. Let's imagine that everything goes well and I can replace my screen, how do I know if the new 17.3" screen will fit in my laptop's frame? Could it be thicker or too thin?

Here is the info that seems to be usually needed:
First 10 characters of my laptop's serial number: NXMNVET002
Screen model number: B173RTN01.1

Just in case anybody has my same laptop model, I ended up installing this panel, it's not IPS but it has really better colors and viewing angles compared to the original one. I bought an eDP cable marketed for FullHD Acer E5-771G models, but I didn't need it, apparently my laptop's cable supported 2 lane eDP even though its screen was only 1 lane.

EDIT: the reason why I didn't get an IPS panel is that none matched my original screen's dimensions and mounting point for the screws.

    (2) No. You cannot safely assume that your laptop has a 2 lane eDP cable, and/or the motherboard supports a 2 lane eDP cable. Jack E/NJ

I said that I know my panel has a 1 lane eDP connector in my first post, but yeah you clarified that I can't assume my laptop has a 2 lane eDP cable just because some models come with a FullHD screen.
