Hi all
I have a problem with my Aspire

F17 F5-771G

It was working completely fine today, until I woke it up from 20 minute long sleep mode . The screen lit up, but didnt display anything. I was worried that either the hard drice got disconnected or the battery broke, but when I plugged it into a tv via hdmi everything worked fine.
Any ideas?

1.Unplug the AC adapter and other cables from your notebook.
2.Turn the notebook and look for battery reset pin hole.
3.insert the paper clip and hold it for 30 - 40 seconds.
4.Turn over the notebook one last time and plug in your AC adapter.
    5.Turn on your notebook.

Or should I have disconnected the battery too?

Also, when booting from another drive the same problem occurs- does that mean it has to be a hardware issue?

I dont think battery can be removable for this model until unless opening the plastic board.

Unfortunately yes, but before we could confirm its a hardware issue. could you please try uninstalling display drivers from device manager and restart the device ( Do not check the box to delete driver software ). Once done try the combination of "Windows + P" and select duplicate. if it does not work then we can confirm it to be hardware issue.

You can contact acer support for more help

It would not be a disconnected hard drive or faulty battery, if the output to the TV appears normal.  The culprit is likely to be a screen that failed.  Acer will fix it for you, if it is under warranty.  If not, it's a straightforward DIY project.  Unable to locate a video for a F17. The closest is for a F15.
