It is widely reported on review sites and on these boards that this model has a buggy wifi module. It randomly disconnects from the router, and needs to be stopped/started to get it working. Sometimes it works for hours, sometimes 10 minutes.

Since this is widely reported, I assume many of you also have this problem. How did you solve it?

I'm using Linux and posted a similar problem to that board, but I'm also posting here to see if Windows users have some advice. If there is a solution for Windows, I might get it to work in Linux too.

In 1 YouTube video, there was a suggestion to install Wifi drivers in Windows 10.  In Linux Mint the Driver Manager automatically downloads the correct drivers for your laptop (they are marked as "Recommended").  Trying reinstalling.

In this video, also for Windows 10, the suggestion is to turn off a power saver option.  Your Power Manager may have a similar option.

As far as drivers are concerned, Ubuntu offers the drivers which are in the kernel, so there are no special drivers to use. Acer doesn't make linux drivers as far as I know.

The power saving route is interesting though! I'm gonna check that out, I hope it's something that simple. Thanks for this tip!

Hi! Is your wlan model a qca9377? Are you connected in 2.4ghz or 5ghz band?

    Model:
The output from `sudo lshw -C network` gives me "QCA9377 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter" by "Qualcomm Atheros".

    Band:
To be honest I'm not sure how to check that. I tried `iw phy` which tells me band 1 has "HT20/HT40" and band 2 has "HT20/HT40" so I assume the module supports both, but I'm not sure.

OK! Download this driver and install using the device manager because it does not have an executable file but the .inf file! I have like to know the model of your router!

I already helped some users who had the same problem on this wifi card and the solution was to update the driver!

    Hi @jimmy2
Go to device manager. Look for where it says network adapters and right click and uninstall it. After doing this reboot your computer. What this will do is force the computer to re install the drivers for your WiFi adapter on your PC.

I'll try that in a Windows setup to see what happens. Though it's not a long-term solution as I use linux (ubuntu). If it works it would be good because that means the wifi module hardware works, but also a little frustrating because drivers will never be available in linux (acer only makes windows drivers).

    Thanks for the the help!

I think this is the explanation for the "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power" option.  Not so sure you would want to crank everything up in Power Management.  Updating the router firmware sounds like a better idea.

I checked the Driver Manager in my HP laptop running Linux Mint 18.1.  The recommended driver is Broad.com, bcmwl-kernel-source.  Try reinstalling the recommended driver for your Acer because it is one of the suggested solutions in the above cited article.  You are correct that Acer does not provide the Linux drivers.
