Just received my Acer Aspire 5 A515-51-50Y5 which was advertised as having IPS technology. Something just seemed a bit off with the display as I was expecting it to be better than my previous TN laptop and it wasn't. Checked the device manager which said the display name was BOE06BA. Also ran software to identify my laptop's hardware which gave me the prior display name as well as the display model NT156FHM-N41. Googling both these seem to bring up results for TN displays. Oddly though their website says the A515-51 models come with IPS displays although the technical support advisor I spoke to told me he could not find my exact model of laptop to confirm specifications which I find strange.

Anyway I got this laptop for a good price and if it cost me £100 to upgrade the display it would still probably be better than anything I could afford all costs combined (laptop was £440). Refund is an option so it's all good if it's more hassle than it's worth.

Is upgrading the display to ips even possible or would my laptop only be compatable with TN displays? Also i know I am being a pest but could anyone help identify a compatable model or even where to find one if this is possible. Thank you!

I believe you can upgrade the panel to IPS. But there was already a thread regarding this issue that has explanation and useful links. click the following link to check it out. Hope it resolves the panel issue.

Slightly different I think? The model I have is A515-51-50Y5. The one discussed in your link is the A515-51-G series although I assume these are similar. My laptop currently is FHD not the HD one. I see the displays types linked to in the other thread are a-si tft-lcd. Are these IPS displays? I am specifically looking to upgrade from a TN FHD to a IPC which I originally believed the laptop to have. Also is there a difference between a screen with IPS technologies and a try IPS screen? As this might have been where the confusion came from when purchasing. Thanks
