When the laptop goes to sleep (automatically, balanced mode, 30 minutes on AC power), I'll return a while later and press any button from my keyboard to wake the computer. I see the orange standby light change to blue so I know the laptop is resuming, but my laptop's screen is frozen with a black screen and i have waiting it for almost 30 minutes or more.

The only way to recover from this is to open the laptop and long-press the power button which I believe this could be harm the computer hard disk. This occurs every time I hard to wake the windows due to this resume from sleep issue. Long-pressing the power button again to turn the laptop off and powering it back on a second time resumes normal operations.

My Acer laptop model is Aspire E5-576G. Any suggestion for the issue found in my laptop? Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

You could just use hibernate instead of sleep, however, that doesn't always work for everyone as sometimes using the wrong ME driver can cause shutdown hangups in addition to sleep hangups.

Also try to do a bios update. that will work... :)

Hi, Thank you so much for your replied. However, even i am using hibernate, when I on my computer, sometimes the problem still exist. The computer power button light is on, the screen remain black. Do no sure what is the issue? This computer just bought 6 months ago.

@LIANGWEI  I think you want sleep not hibernate. And you must completely shut off your machine and cold boot for these settings to take effect. If the screen still remains black after sleep, try pressing the FN+F6 toggle key combination to try to turn it back on. Jack E/NJ

To check whether the screen connection is loose, this video for the E5-575g, (parts #B156HAN01.1 or B156HAN01.2), will show you how to check the parts # for your device.  There does appear to be a video specifically for the 576g.  On the assumption that the parts # is identical, the video will show you how to check the screen connection on your device.  Place a protective covering on the keyboard before setting the screen on to it to prevent scratches or accidentally pressing the power button.  Have a cup to hold the 4 tiny screws if you don't have a magnetic tray.

If it's a not a hardware problem, it may be necessary to reinstall the OS, which is a tedious process. If anything goes wrong with the reinstall, it's a good idea to create a system image beforehand.  Windows system image creation has been unreliable in the past & will be deprecated going forward.  This tutorial provides step-by-step instructions for Macrium Reflect.  It is not necessary to purchase Macrium.  Just download the 7 day free trial version to create the Windows PE Rescue Media (DVD or USB drive).  Windows files become corrupted over time, so the Macrium system image is an excellent way to restore a working copy of the OS, with all the personalizations, in the minimal amount of time.  It has proven to be a life saver over the years.

This worked for me after my laptop just show a black screen after sleep or on startup. It starts back up sometimes, but I had to repeatedly press the power button and hope for the best. My laptop model is Aspire E5-575G, which I owned for about 2 years before this problem show up. Now it works fine after I switch from sleep to hibernate as you wrote above. Thank you so much.
