My Spin 3 won't turn on after the Windows April 2018 update

When I hit the power button, the keyboard back-light flashes once then nothing else happens.

I updated Windows, started the computer, and used Chrome without a problem or downloading anything.  I went to sleep with the computer on and unplugged so the battery drained.  When I woke-up this morning, I plugged the computer in, and now it won't turn on.

I wish I had more information, but the computer literally does nothing else besides flash the keyboard back-light once when I press the power button.  Holding in the power button doesn't do anything.  I unplugged it and I held the button in to drain all the power but nothing happened after I plugged it back in.  I tried turning it on while open and closed.  I'm at a loss about what to do next.

It's always updated fine until now.

Here's the model:
Acer Spin SP315-51-757C

I bought it about 10 months ago.

Remove the charger plug. On the bottom you'll find a battery reset hole near mid-section. Press a paper clip in the hole for about a minute. Let the system rest for about 15 mins. Then plug the charger back in. Turn the system on and hope for the best. Jack E/NJ

Does the KB still flash once when power button is pressed? Do the battery or power LEDs flash when the charger is first plugged in or power button pressed? Does the charger output still exceed 15volts at the plug? Jack E/NJ

    Thanks for the reply.

Does the KB still flash once when power button is pressed?
    Keyboard still flashes once.

Do the battery or power LEDs flash when the charger is first plugged in or power button pressed?

The battery LED comes on like normal when plugged in. But, if I press the power button, the LED turns off until I unplug it then replug it.

Does the charger output still exceed 15volts at the plug?

    How do I check that?

OK. Good sign. This happens sometimes with rechargeables. I suspect the battery is so low that when you also try to turn on the machine, the charger is overwhelmed and trips its circuit breaker.

So don't try to turn the machine on. Just let the battery charge till the LED changes from orange to blue. Then try to turn it on. If it doesn't turn blue then yes you must check the plug voltage output with a multimeter.

The LED light is already blue.  Does that mean it's fully charged?  Or is it different for each model?

    Here's the multimeter I got:

Yes, a steady blue means the battery should be fully charged. Press the power button. If nothing seems to happen, press the power button again for 2-3 seconds and release. If still nothing happens, check the charger plug output voltage with that multimeter. Jack E/NJ

Will do.  I'll check back in on Sunday when I get the multimeter.  Thanks again.

Unfortunately, the test leads don't fit in the plug.  Any suggestions?

Just insert a needle or any thin wire into the hole at the end of the plug to make contact inside. Then touch one multimeter probe on the needle and the other multimeter probe on the outside metal on the plug. Jack E/NJ

Will do. I thoughts that's what you would do but I didn't want to go shoving things where they don't belong.

Okay, I tested it 3 times and got 19.31 each time. The adapter says 19V, 2.37A.

The multimeter has a accuracy of +- (0.8%+2) for the 20V range.

Charger seems OK. So plug it back in. The battery LED should turn from orange to blue. When blue, disconnect the charger. Then try to turn the machine on again. If still no joy, don't waste any more time and arrange for warranty service ASAP because anything else we try requires opening the machine which may void the warranty. Jack E/NJ

I assume the battery LED didin't go from orange to blue when charger was on. So unplug charger and remove 12 screws on the back cover. Take cover off. May have to be pried a bit with a credit card. Disconnect the battery ribbon cable on the mainboard. Let it set disconnected for a day or so. Then reconnect the battery, pop the cover back on without the screws, plug the charger in and try to turn it on again. Jack E/NJ
