Hi

I need to flash the BIOS on my Aspire E11

I have had a look around the Acer website but can only find an exe version and need a DOS one to make a crisis disk

As we speak the machine will not boot, I have checked the RAM and HD and both are ok

Any idea where I can get the DOS version

Thanks

Jason

    Hi Jason,

I am not definite but I hope this helps you out.

-Download the bios zip file from Acer support website ( https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support ) after entering the SNID of the device.
-Find the exe file in the Windows folder
-Extract the files in the exe archive using the program 7-Zip
    -Find the .fd file
-Copy.FD file and FLASH IT.EXE to a usb drive
-Take the battery and the hard drive out.
-With the AC power plugged in hold down Fn+Esc and press the power button once while making sure the Fn+Esc was still held down.
-Wait few seconds and let go of the Fn+Esc
-Check if the flash drive has started being read
-After about 10 minutes, the machine will reboot with new BIOS

    Thanks for that but ...

I have downloaded the file from the Acer website but the zip file does not contain the FD or FLASH files it has a tool for flashing the bios that need to be run form the machine you want to flash

    Hi Jason,

In order to check the fd file or create a bootable USB, you have to install 7 zip extractor( https://www.7-zip.org/ )

Then right click on the exe file inside Windows folder and extract it using 7 zip

From the extracted file try to check if you can create a bootable flash drive.

I tried to test the contents by extracting BIOS of some random model but I couldnt find the FD file.

Give it a whirl, maybe this is some progress than nothing.
