Hi i am intending on upgrading the M2. SSD  in my Predator Helios 300  PH317-51 to a larger Samsung 970 NVME Can anyone tell me how to clone the old one onto the new one as I think there is only one slot in this laptop and not two. I have the Samsung migration software already, I only wish to know how to clone one onto another and do I need to disconnect the battery and if so how. Finally is there anything else I need to do with bios etc or other changes in the boot menu.

    Hi,
You can use migration feature in MiniTool Partition wizard free program, install the program in M.2 SSD, you need a spare HDD, install the HDD in the available bay, run Minitool partition wizard and use migrate feature to transfer the OS and the data to HDD from M.2 SSD(original SSD).
Then go to BIOS settings, move to Boot tab and change the boot order to make HDD as your first boot device. Remove the current M.2 SSD and install 970 NVMe drive, reboot and run Minitool Partition wizard, transfer the OS and contents of HDD to new larger M.2 SSD(970), then go to BIOS and change the boot order to make Samsung 970 as your first boot, remove the HDD and reboot the laptop.

    Second method:
Install Macrium Reflect free, run it and create a bootable recovery USB disk,  backup the contents of current M.2 SSD to an external HDD, then remove the current M.2 SSD and install Samsung 970, insert the recovery USB, go to BIOS settings and make the USB as your first boot device, reboot and it will take you to Macrium Reflect, connect the external HDD which has the backup of your original SSD, recover the image to your new SSD.

There are convertable cables available the market which allows you to connect SSD to your laptop with USB connection and you can try the following steps.

You can install EaseUS todo backup app. This is a free app that can be downloaded

Step 1. Launch EaseUS Todo Backup and select Clone.

Step 2. Select the source SSD (name it SSD 1) you want to clone and click Next.

choose source disk to clone ssd to ssd

Step 3. Select the destination SSD (name it SSD 2)and click Next.

choose destination disk to clone ssd to ssd

Note: Sector by sector clone option enables you to clone all sectors from SSD 1 to SSD 2.

Step 4. Preview the disk layout to confirm the settings of the source and destination disk.

preview layout to clone ssd to ssd

Step 5. Click Proceed to execute disk clone.

Hi! It is suggested to perform backup & restore from the internal disk to the new Samsung SSD if you have only one M.2 slot. Surely, you can clone NVMe to NVMe with the help of adapter, but the first method is recommended for secure boot.
