Just picked up my girlfriend the refreshed Acer Predator Helios 300 and it is as hot as other people say, I thought the issue would be fixed with the newer laptop but it was just PC upgrades. I am almost certain it's the thermal paste because on my previous Alienware from a few years back it experienced the same problems.

Currently I have done an undervolt to the laptop with Intel XTU, setting the core voltage to a -0.130 which greatly reduced the temperature issue but I feel as if it could go a lot lower. From about a peak on the CPU of 93C -> a peak of 80C while playing PUBG. How much of a difference would repasting do if any? Would we be able to send in the laptop with MX4 paste and they'll paste that ontop of the CPU/GPU or will they once again, use their toothpaste? Also if I were to repaste with MX4 would putting a little more than a pea/rice be a bad thing since it's just transferring heat?

I also know that I would need thermal pads and I'll probably have to watch a video on what pads to put on the laptop if I do go about this route.

If you got it reduced from 95 to 80 with under volting, stick to it. Re-pasting might not be of much help here.

I was thinking it would drop it maybe another 8C but I am still uncertain. Even then that could be very nice on the hands after some time since the keyboard does get extremely hot and at points unsafe to touch.

I use a USB fan to counter the heat in areas north of F1-F12. This helps reduce overall temps too. $10 fan much cheaper than getting the re-pasting done :-)

Mind giving me a link to the fan? I also forgot to mention that we are using a little bit of an older model but two external fans connected via USB under it, it also makes it so the laptop is at a 45 degree angle instead of it being flat.

I ordered a bunch of them... to try out a few...
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073QLFYVY <-- the one i use the most! I ordered 3 of these... as a just in case for its barely $3 each. Plus gives me option to plug in into any spare USB charger too.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XN24GY <-- this too is very nice.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NDC63CQ <-- got this for the laptop, but end up using for myself :-)

Since most of these fans are so very cheap i didn't want it mess with my laptop usb electronics, and put it either on separate USB charger plug, or on my power bank. Play safe mode :-)
