Slow internet Browsing with New Swift 1

I have just purchased a Swift 1 and straight away have found it takes much longer to load web pages (in both firefox and edge) than my previous much older laptop. Is there a way to check why web pages load so slow? I don't believe it is a wifi/router problem as it is working fine for all other devices.

I think this variability and speed perception relative to the older machine are more a function of the website's server capacity and traffic than your local machine true capability. Google & speedtest servers usually can handle high volume traffic better than most.  Many websites haven't updated their servers in years even though their website traffic has increased two or more times --- as a result, they're gonna be slow downloading and uploading during high traffic times. Accordingly, from your speedtest results and your personal description, I seriously doubt you have a local hardware issue. Jack E/NJ

Using firefox, what speeds do you get from tuning to http://www.speedtest.net/  on the Swift1 and on another device? Jack E/NJ

I'm getting: Ping 4ms, 28.2Mbps Download and 22.39Mbps Upload on the Swift 1.
On my phone (Samsung Galaxy) I get: Ping 3ms, 32.9Mbps Download and 18.7Mbps Upload.

the reason i ask is i have one of those and with a fresh install of 10, web loading speed is noticeably slower than on a 6 year old lenovo - but then again, the processor is a n4200 low powered cpu, hence your laptop is fanless too (the old machine is an 2nd gen i5).

Relative to the Galazy, I'm not seeing the issue yet. Is the older laptop available for a comparison  at speedtest.net? All three have to be done running speedtest at about the same time, one right after another. If not, which ISP speed plan are you signed up for? Jack E/NJ

I believe the old laptop CPU was an intel i5-460M. Unfortunately it has died so can't compare speed tests taken at same time, from memory when I had previously done the speed test with old laptop it was similar numbers to new Swift 1.

Since my first message I have updated the wireless driver, removed the preloaded Norton Antivirus trial and followed the advice I read in the comment thread below.

It has improved browsing speed quite a lot but not to the speed of previous laptop and seems to fluctuate between loading the web page quickly and then taking much longer for same website but might be best I can hope for.

Did you try splitting the frequency between 2.4/5ghz? Perhaps it is connecting to 5Ghz and you are staying a bit farther from your router. If your router supports dual band frequency, try splitting the SSID into 2.4/5 and connect to 2.4 and see if that helps.

1, 6 and 11 are best channels for 2.4ghz btw.
    BElieve in YOUrself.

Have you tried if it's slow with the power cable connected and without the power cable connected?
I got that on my acer spin for some reason.

@razzee Thanks for the comment. That would suggest your power plan is not set to high performance on the battery alone. You can change your power plan battery performance in control panel settings. Jack E/NJ
