Please help me upgrade the memory on my Aspire T3-715A

My Aspire T3-715A has 8gb of memory, and I would like to upgrade it to 16gb.  The first 10 digits of the serial number are:  DTB7ZAA0026.  When I run HWinfo it says that I have 8gb of Hynix memory, but that it is DDR4-2134 / PC4-17000 DDR4 SDRAM UDIMM??  This is server memory, am I correct?  Do I have to use another stick of the DDR4-2134, which is hard to find and very expensive?  Or would 2133 work?  Or should I just get 2 sticks of a different type of memory that is more common?  I am so confused...thank you in advance for any help. -Katharine

    Katharine,

Some T3-715A came with Hynix part below.  Is that your part?

    https://www.amazon.com/Hynix-HMA41GU6AFR8N-TF-DDR4-2133-Non-ECC-Server/dp/B0165ZUTIG

    https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=1WK-002C-00008

You should be able to use your HWINFO or CPUZ to determine the part number of your existing Hynix RAM and then just match it up.  (Purchase the same part # and you won't have to worry about compatibility with your existing RAM.)

    I think the 2133 vs 2134 is just a rounding issue....that I wouldn't worry about.   1066.5 X 2= 2133       1067 X 2= 2134       DDR (Double Data Rate)

You can also remove the existing Hynix RAM from your computer and look at the sticker and it should have the part number on it.

Note:  I cheated a little bit when I looked for your part number of your existing Hynix RAM since I don't have a T3-715A  I looked at the link below to give me info.  And then I used google

    You're welcome!

Were you not able to click on the Amazon or Newegg links in my previous post?

When I looked on Crucial's website, I don't have a good feeling about their RAM being compatible with your existing 8 GB of Hynix.  You could, of course, contact Crucial and ask them.

If I were in your shoes, I would purchase the Hynix ram in that Amazon link I gave you in previous post.  You'll save $60 and not have to deal with the hassle of trying to sell your Hynix ram on Ebay.

However, purchasing a couple 8 GB ram sticks from Crucial is certainly an option....and then selling the Hynix on ebay.  It's just not the route that I would take personally.

Yes, you can use a 2400 kit that crucial says is compatible with your T3-715A.

    Yes, it will downclock.

You can also use a 2666 kit just as long as Crucial says it is compatible.

Thanks!  I actually had looked up the part number, which is HMA41GU6AFR8N-TF, which is how I found out it is server memory, and it is very hard to find; actually I can only find it refurbished for about 100 bucks.  So I guess what I am asking is, is it OK to get an 8GB stick of name brand (Crucial, GSKill, etc) 2133 memory to pair with it, or would I bet better off just buying a pair of commercial 8GB sticks, and scrapping the Hynix?  Thanks again for your help!

Hi, I have got one more question, if you don't mind.  I have decided to go the route of buying a new memory kit, because I can get it right away, and once I sell the old Hynix memory, I'll come out pretty much even.  My question is this:  For some reason, ddr4 2400 memory is about as cheap as ddr4 2133.  Am I correct that the 2400 will work on my mobo, but will just downclock to 2133?  I figure, if it is about the same price, I may as well go ahead and get the faster memory, so that I would be able to potentially use it in a future build.  Thanks!!!!
