Installing a new hard drive

I want to install a new hard drive in my Acer Extensa 5620.  I have the Acer recovery disk and the system disk.  Do I also have to have the Windows Vista disk or will the Acer system disk be enough?

Why can't you just clone the drive to the new one? If you get a SATA adapter you can easily do it with the old drive inside the computer and the new drive connected with a SATA to USB cable.

My old drive is not working, that's why I bought a new one.  When I installed the new one and booted it from my system disk, an error message came up that there were no partitions.

You can try starting up with alt and F10 to get into recovery mode. Either way you need to format the drive that's probably why it isn't recognizing it.

The system disc should be enough. Put the recovery disc in and start or restart your computer. Answer the questions (1, A, Y, Y). Take the recovery disc out when prompted. Put in system disc and go through that process. Take system disc out when prompted and complete the recovery -- good as new.
