1st Generation AOA110 not longer detects an attached HDD post BIOS update - 3310

Hi there:
So I ran the BIOS update to 3310 on my AOA110 because it wouldn't recognise the battery (weird... why do these things happen he asks himself!?) Anyway, the result is that it no longer recognises the original 8GB drive attached to the device - F0206B14AP1-MS1. I am happy to get a new SSD or just use an external bootable memory stick - it is just a bit of fun, but I would prefer to sort it out.
Has anyone met this before? More specifically, can I fix it?

If you F2 into the BIOS menu, the HDD will probably be recognized. Then just save settings and exit and it should boot. At least till the next time after you've had the machine turned off for a while. I suspect that BIOS chip is probably losing its memory settings because the CMOS lithium coin cell on the mainboard needs to be replaced. They usually only last about 8 or so years. Jack E/NJ

I tried that initially, but it didn't sort the issue, so it's a bit weird. I will post here if I find anything else out, but if anyone else has any suggestions, please let me know. I think that I might just employ the services of some flash-cards instead - greater capacity and I will set them up as boot drives... and ignore the internal drive for now... Not the best, but it will probably work.

I'm now gonna guess the BIOS update wasn't really needed but not the cause of the current situation. When you replaced the coin cell, did you also re-seat the SSD a few times to clean its contacts with the mainboard? Jack E/NJ
