Hiccups / Occasional freezes with my Acer Predator, could use some help?

I own a Predator G6-710 Desktop computer, and recently it has been having weird hiccups.

Every hour or so, everything completely freezes for 3-7 seconds then goes back to normal. Really becomes annoying especially during games. Not completely sure what the problem is, a friend mentioned my Hard Drive but he was not sure.

Any help?

Is it regular at all (like every 90 minutes or every two hours) or seemingly random? Sometime if it's regular you can pin it down to something that's launched by Task Scheduler.

Seemingly random, there's no way to tell when it's about to do one.

I do believe I have solved the problem, however, it was recommended to me to defrag my drives (I had it on once a week schedule) and that seemed to have fixed it; meaning that the problem would have fixed itself but not until the next defrag of my drives.

Just an odd glitch, hasn't occurred any today.

Thank you for the response though!

Usually when a defrag (as opposed to a disk scan and repair) fixes an intermittent problem you will find that it didn't actually fix it, it masked something that requires specific timing to occur. The defrag allows files to load faster, so something that crashes when a file doesn't sync up fast enough has the problem hidden.
