Switch 5 (SW512-52) & Windows 10 update 1803 issues

My switch 5 updated to the new build of windows (1803) on the 1st.  The upgrade install went without issue and all items under device manager were good, but since then the S5 has been unstable with many crash issues (requiring me to hold the power button to force a shutdown). All the crash issue came while playing video local and through Netflix streaming.  In addition the sound volume has been reduced to about half of what is was before.  I tried installing most of the drivers form the Acer site to fix the issue but crashes and sound issue continue. The internet had a few things to try but none worked. I rolled back the update and all is good again. 

 

If anyone else with a S5 has done the update I would like to know it you are having these issue.

    I too was having problems with my Acer Switch 5 (SW512-52) after upgrading to build 1803.
    The tablet would randomly get a blue screen every few minutes, even after a complete clean install with the 1803 build!
    The two exception messages on the blue screen were: CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED and UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION.
    Two things seem to have fixed the problem for me so far. I have not had blue screen since then:

    1. First, I upgraded the driver of the Intel HD Graphics 620 card to the latest one from the Intel website:
      Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows® 10, Version: 24.20.100.6025 (Latest) Date: 4/26/2018


      Had to do a manual installation, since the installer wouldn't let me do it.

    2. Second, I upgraded the firmware of the Intel SSD 660p Series to version PSF121C with the Intel Solid-State Drive Toolbox:
      Intel® Solid State Drive Toolbox, Version: 3.5.2 (Latest) Date: 3/29/2018

    I did the update and my Switch has also been much less stable since. I've had the blue screen of death three times in two days (never had it before) and my browser and office suite have also crashed several times. I'll give it a day or so longer, but I'm seriously considering rolling back the update as well.

    I got Acer aspire E1-522 Windows Version 16299.402 Build 1709 it has failed 9 times so far at the second screen of Working on Updates its keeps telling me its floppy drive issue but my laptop does not have a floppy drive in stalled it only has a DVDR/w Drive I put in extra 8 Gigs of ram last year and its been running good until the last three nights just keeps upgrading to build 8003 and then reverts back on that second Screen of working on updates,


    From what I read so far even Internet Service Providers are having compatibility issues due to IPV4 component that give you reliability and stable ability of pervious Windows updates from server to the routers network protocol been remove in order to force internet service providers to move onto Native IPv6 which offers faster more secure networking feature and no one is happy with its, 

    End users are experiencing crashes to unable to boot at all sound like Windows 10 Build 8003, Version 17134.1 is a mess they need to work on.

    The people who got the build earlier before RTM version reported lots of bugs in the build and its the reason Microsoft pushed it back a bit but by the looks of it like online gaming developers they have not taken into account different designs in laptops to desktops.

    its now currently stuck on Getting Windows ready been there now for 10 minutes Microsoft really has done a number on end users looks like we could go for a class action here.

    Many are having issues during the install but my S5 installs with no issue but become very unstable with low sound there after. Will need to wait for Acer to test and update drivers or BIOS. I installed it on my 5 year old Dell xps and desktop with no issues and they are running stable. For now I have set a 365 day delay for that update until this gets fixed. Those with the Home version of Windows 10 they can stop the update but it's harder.

    Same problem here on brand new Switch 3. After updating to 1803 Laptop freezes constantly and getting blue screen of dead. Could have something to do with the outdated intel drivers. (vga and network card) Rolled back the update and everything is working perfectly again. Hope fix is coming soon.

    Is there any way to stop the update on Windows Home? It's been downloaded again and is waiting to install. I can postpone it for a week or so, but don't see a way to stop it completely.

    I am experiencing the same issue with my Switch 5.  I upgraded to Windows 10 (build 1803) on 4/30/2018 and the install had zero complications or issues; however, after the install, the fingerprinter sensor was not responded and shortly after and over the next two days I experienced six "blue screens."  Then, I opted to roll back Windows 10 to the previous build version and all issues had resolved.  Then, I attempted to reinstall build 1803 again 5/9/2018 and again the fingerprint sensor issue and blue screens have returned.  As someone else reported, you can push the update off for only so long until the option to restart the computer (and not apply updates) is no longer available.

    I checked the Updates section of settings again today and the update to build 1803 seems to have disappeared. Instead, there was a further update to 1709 and an update to the Intel driver. Hopefully these will help sort out whatever the issues were when it does come time to update to 1803. In the meantime, I've updated and restarted; I'm still on 1709 and all seems good.

    After the initial 1803 update I also had a few crashes. The fingerprint sensor issue is because of a wrong driver picked by the update. This can be changed. After this weeks update kb4103721 the switch behaves smoother and no crash yet.

    How was the sound volume after the update? I lost about a 25% of the volume and installing the old audio drivers did nothing.

    I think 1803 is blocked now for these SSDs.
    "We just learned that Microsoft is blocking some Intel SSDs from installing the April 2018 Update after discovering an incompatibility issue that causes performance and stability issues."
    I couldn't even manually install it, it says this version of Windows is incompatible with your hardware.

    Same issue here, ended up with me having the laptop replaced under shop exchange policy (big thumbs up to JBHIFI). Multiple random BSOD in Chrome, ie, office, Zwift. Basically nothing to do with an application (as far as I could tell) - Also ran Windows Memory diagnostics in extended mode 5 passes and then memtest86 as the BSOD was mostly a memory management report. Neither WMD or memtest86 showed any memory errors, but the BSOD was so random I figured it had to be bad RAM. 

    Could of saved myself a whole heap of hassle if I had found this post first...

    I came looking for it because the fall update to 1803 is now reporting 'incompatible hardware' rather than allowing the upgrade to go ahead. So hard luck to anyone who had installed it and deleted the rollback files like I did! Also noticed that the fingerprint scanner would only work after a hard reset once, and wouldn't work again (e.g. after resume) until the next restart. Jeesh Microsoft's QA process is going downhill - I don't think CI/CD is that appropriate for an OS!

    I bought a Swift 5 just before the 1803 update release and it updated within a day or two; subsequently many BSOD. I rolled back to 1709, after upgrading to pro (~£20 for a key) and blocked further updates. It's now clear that 'Home' is a euphemism for 'unsuspecting beta testers' and I'm too old to seek that sort of excitement.

    I too am having a myriad of issues with my SW5-012 tablet-PC.  When I installed the Windows 10 1803 update, my touchscreen, sound, wifi and screen rotation ceased to function.

    Going to the Device manager after the update showed no problem hardware, or anything missing.  All seems to be there and accounted for, but not working very well at all.  All the main features of a tablet are gone (Touchscreen and Rotation.)

    I did not find any resolutions to any of my issues, and when I posted on Microsoft's website, they simply told me to revert back to 1709.  I had made a backup prior to installing the update, so no problems there.  But it would be nice to have a real resolution to these issues.

    Again, 1803 breaks the following functionality of my SW5-012:
    Touchscreen
    Rotation
    Sound
    WiFi

    so is this ultimately a hardware issue with the ssd?

    if yes, how will acer fix this?

    my new switch 5 (amazon just about two weeks ago) is blue screening seems like a few times a day, did all windows updates per the win update tool, etc

    i7-7500, 8gb

    i don't want to have to return this to amazon but what choice do i have? i have a thousand dollar paper weight at this point

    Intel / Microsoft should fix this. In the meantime try rolling back to 1709. I then bought a key for Pro, for £20, and deferred future updates until they have been properly beta tested.

    I also own an SW512-52 and I stayed under 1803 in waiting the solution. I received this release few days ago which fixed the SSD issue via the Windows update canal:
    • May 23, 2018—KB4100403 (OS Build 17134.81): Link.
      "Addresses an issue with power regression on systems with NVMe devices from certain vendors."
    Now the laptop works perfectly like under 1709.
