Is there any news on the upload to 1.14 on Acer's site?  It seems that some people are getting this from Windows Update but I don't seem to be one of those people.

G-Sync is what I am after which is why I want it.  That will allow us to get rid a VSync and allow for lower running temps.

What is your laptop's model? G-sync is a feature that should be supported by the laptop's display in order work. Windows doesn't update the BIOS, it only installs the latest OS patches and updates outdated drivers.

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

Not sure about the update.  V-Sync will remain and can be run in tandem with G-Sync, former will vary the display refresh rate, the latter will cap the refresh rate.  I mostly leave V-sync off and use the application settings unless the application/game doesn't play well.  G-Sync Is enabled for full screen, nor do I see any difference in the temperature.  I only play games casually so the additional input lag of V-Sync is not really much of a concern to me.

Caveat being the hardware supports G-Sync, be it internally or externally.

It is a G3-571.  The laptop screen is a Chi Mei CMN15D3 which is G-Sync enabled.  This will require the capability to be added to the BIOS, and from what I am reading, the 1.14 BIOS includes a G-Sync option you can turn on.

Note I am not 100% positive anymore that this panel is G-Sync enabled.  Why is it so hard to find a white paper on this panel?

I doubt that this panel supports G-sync. What would be the point to sell a laptop with G-sync panel, but not G-sync enabled. It is in manufacturer's interest to advertise the product as G-sync capable in order to set a higher price point and at the same time why would Acer spend more money on a G-sync panel and advertise it as non-gsync so to speak.

Interestingly, I couldn't find any information on a panel supporting G-sync whether it supports G-sync if that makes sense. Any other type of info is written, except whether it supports variable refresh rate.

It would be very kind of you if you send the link/s of the sites you have read that from. Thank you :)

I was reading some laptops with the same display that had G-Sync.  That is about all I could find.  I can try and find it again.

Acer has multiple SKU's so it's not unusual for the specifications to differ.  Same with my G9-793 some have G-Sync internal display's some do not.  I opted for the 1080p G-Sync model.  Highly likely if your notebook was G-Sync compatible it would already be in the specifications.  An update for an external G-Sync display may be possible, the internal either is or isn't, likely the latter.

The G3-571 is not advertised or sold to have a G-Sync screen and I have never saw anyone with a G3-571 have G-Sync.

@ven98 I actually received 1.14 via Windows Update. Otherwise, IDK how I would have gotten it because its not on the site.

Looks like I am wrong.  Oh well.  There was some hope

Also I notice you are on the preview build which is probably why you got it.

Preview builds for Windows would not make a difference for hardware updates, and I don't think the other persons who have gotten it were on the Insider Previews either.

BIOS downloaded and installed automatically by windows - it is not something that you see very often if at all, thanks Skelo :). I wonder if this BIOS was forced through the windows update, because it addresses the spectre exploit.

Yeah it is very unusually, but it happened. I agree that it is likely pushed this way because of Meltdown & Spectre.
