I visited the support and downloads page to see if there were any updates available after having to restore my system to factory settings. I have been able to update everything with the exception of the BIOS,and i am just simply not able to find any help on how to accomplish this. Please help and thank you in advance for your assistance. I have an Acer aspire x1800 desktop.

Are you having an issue that you require a new BIOS update?

Thanks for your response. Sorry i did not reply sooner, the alert i was supposed to recieve did not arrive. As to your question about issues that may cause me to require a bios update, there are no specific issues except to say that, after returning my system back to factory settings, it does no respond the way it used to. I tried to do some hardware diagnostics but the manufacturer information needed was not captured in the hardware inventory.

For example, the Harddisk drive is recorded as "st375052 8AS scsi disk device. I downloaded speccy and it says the disk is a seagate barracuda 750gb, so i went to seagate and tried to run the hard drive diagnostic tool (seatools), but the initial scan only detects the generic compact flash usb device but not the hard drive so i am basically stuck at being unable to determine if the issues are related to a failing drive.

There are other minor issues one of which is, the set of DVD recovery disks i purchased from Acer failed to run to completion,(cyclic redundancy check) so i am wondering if having to abort and use erecovery maybe causing some of these issues. Thanks fo any assistance you can render in advance and if you have any further questions that may help you point me in the right direction, i will be glad to answer them.

There is some conflicting information in what you provide.

You state that you restored the system to factory, but the recovery media does not work to completion.

The hard drive is ID'd by 'Speccy' but is recorded as "st375052 8AS scsi disk device".  Where is this "recorded"?

Please note that we do not support other manufacturer's tools and cannot comment on them.  You would need to work with Seagate if there are issues with their diagnostic tools.

If you believe there is a hardware of software issue, we would suggest contacting technical support in your region for further assistance with this issue.

Hi, Sorry for the delay in replying. I managed to update the BIOS to the latest revision, P01-A4, without causing any damage. As for my previous post being vague or conflicting,..what i meant was, after attempting to reset the system to factory settings using the recovery discs purchased(AND USED FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME,OUT OF THE PADDED PACKAGING) from acer and getting redundancy check errors, i had to resort to using the erecovery tool. Anyway, it's running, but i am totally dissolutioned(sp) with my first acer machine and the dearth of, do-it-yourself help articles, and utilities.
