What replacement hard-drive should I get for my Acer Aspire 5745G?

I have an Acer Aspire 5745G, model number ZR7A. It currently has a 500 GB 5400 RPM SATA HDD. The hard drive crashed over the weekend and now I need to get it replaced. But I was wondering what should I be looking for when buying one? Does this laptop support 1 TB? 7200 RPM? SATA should be I, II or III? Any other technical spec that I need to check before buying the hard drive?

Please advice.

It supports 1TB. SATA III drives are backward compatible so no issue.  You can also install an SSD for faster performance but more money. Some of the newer drives are probably a bit thinner 7mm vs 9.5mm but the thinner drive can be stabilized inside the case with antistatic foam without a bracket.  Jack E/NJ

I just upgraded my Aspire V5 to a 500GB SSD and am amazed at the performance difference.  The WD SSD was only $175, so I am quite pleased with the cost.

Thanks for the clarification. I checked pure SSD are very pricey (~ $250 for 1TB). Are SSHD like this Segate Firecuda any good or should I stick to plain old HDD like Segate Barracuda? Or do you have any recommendation?

TB SSDs are the latest rage right now. So if ya gotta have a TB SSD cuz you really need that much storage and speed right now, then you're gonna have to pay thru the nose right now. But if you don't really need either, a plain old 500GB HDD that's probably faster than your old busted drive can be had for less than $50 with free shipping.  Or a little more than double that for a 500GB SSD if you'd like a speed boost.  Jack E/NJ
