    Where do I check that? The only settings I can change are the following:

    On Information Tab -> nothing
    On Main Tab -> System Time & Date
                           Quit Boot (there is no difference between enabled or disabled related to the boot time)
                           Network Boot (is disabled)
                           F12 Boot Menu (is enabled)
                           D2D Recovery (is disabled)
                           SATA Mode (is set to AHCI Mode)
    On Security Tab -> Superviser / User / HDD Passwort (none of them are set)
                                Password on Boot (is disabled)
    On Boot Tab -> Boot Sequence (1. IDE 0; 2. CD/DVD and so on)
    On Exit Tab -> nothing, except reset to Setup Defaults

    What do you exactly mean with fast boot mode?

    Sorry. The power settings would be controlled from inside Windows. Search "power options".  Click on choose what power buttons do. Click on change settings that are currently unavailable.  Under shutdown settings see if fast startup is currently enabled or disabled. Change it to see what happens on a cold boot. Jack E/NJ

    Okay, no problem. Fast startup is disabled within Windows.

    I thank you for your help, but I have now decided to reinstall the DVD drive and connect the second (formerly internal) hard drive externally.
    Thanks again for your help :-)

    @MrHonk While it probably could've been made to work properly with a bit more hassle, I think you made a good decision. That's precisely how I use my old HDDs. Just drop them into antistatic bags (poor man enclosures) with a USB adapter cable and, voila, a huge capacity portable drive to use for backups etc. Jack E/NJ
