Aspire 7540 no display

i have an Aspire 7540 originally bought with Windows7 and upgraded to 8 then 10. Until a few months ago, it worked fine apart from a failing battery which wasn't a problem as I always use it with mains power.

As I mainly use a desktop PC, I put the Acer into storage in a cupboard a few months ago. However today I wanted to use it again and when I powered it up there was absolutely nothing on the display. I left it for a while to put some charge in the battery, but still nothing. I also tried connecting to an external display via hdmi, but still nothing. All I can hear is the fan running.

Any ideas what the problem may be. Could it have lost its Bios? If the CMOS battery had fully discharged, would this prevent it booting up?

Please disconnect the charger and remove the battery. Unlock the battery lock, slide the battery release latch to remove the battery.  Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. Connect only the charger and power On the laptop to check the issue.

Thanks. I gave your suggestion a try, but still no display, just a black screen. I then tried removing the hard disc hoping that the bios would display a message that no disc was detected, but still nothing.

Thanks for the reply. If the power indicator is glowing and internal fan is running, please try connecting the laptop to an external monitor or TV.
Also, check the laptop with another charger. You can also reset the memory modules and check the issue.

Tried an external monitor via hdmi but no display on that. I guess that rules out the laptop display being faulty.
Haven't got another suitable charger, but current one is outputting 19v so that looks ok.
Have reseated both memory cards and also tried with both cards individually, still no display.
Currently looking at reflashing the BIOS. I f that has no effect, I'm thinking a faulty graphics section of motherboard?

Problem fixed. I decided to check the cmos battery, which is a pain to get at, but when I eventually extracted it, it was dead,  so replaced it and laptop boots up ok now!
