Legacy mode is only if your current OS is windows7 or xp. It won't boot up until you change it back to UEFI. And I think you can still boot the pc from cd, while the bios is set on uefi.
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

put back your DVD/CD bay on your predator and then at boot press F2, this normally solve the issue of F2 not working.

please check also your BIOS version and update it, this F2 issue was related to an old BIOS version.

as ven98 wrote, if you switch to legacy, windows 10 will not boot.

windows 7 can be installed under UEFI but it's not an easy task.

no, you don't need the windows CD, just the DVD/CD bay inserted on your laptop.

    and press F2 at boot.

what's your exact predator laptop model?

another way to enter BIOS, is to open the bottom of your laptop and disconnect all the HDD/SSD and then boot without them, system will be forced to prompt you to enter BIOS, so you can switch to UEFI and put back your HDD/SSD.

    Predator G9-793

i will try to remove all SSD/HD and see. thinking sending to acer right now.

seem like something is wrong or corrupted in the process of switching to legacy and reboot

usually you should be able to enter Bios again if you unplug the hard discs. Better do fullbackup before playing around Bios Features, you don't know. Smiley Happy

For some reasons I switched sometimes to Legacy. But I never had problems with switching back and booting Windows.

Maybe you should think about what you did else? Because if parititions are not shown under legacy because it cannot handle GPT, it cannot change anything!

yes. this very unlucky one. its was up and running until i changed the bios to legacy.

will send it back to acer tomorrow.

seem to be completely dead after couples of attempts.

battery reset as suggested by tech, removing HD and trying to power on.

I'm sorry. Seems to be Acer's turn.

I had something similar with an Asus Notebook 3 times in one year. I gave it back und bought the Acer. Alltogether rocksolid in my eyes. You had just bad luck, I think.

    cheers,

I got my laptop back. It turn out the mb was dead. They also mention that my upgraded memory was faulty.
Back to win7.. how can I install window 7 on UEFI?
Not going to try that legacy mode anymore lol
    Any instructions?

changing the mainboard is a standard procedure to avoid higher costs and it has nothing to say like motherboard was faulty. Installing Win7 on UEFI is not possible and says, that you are still missing the basics. Why do you think it is a good idea to take an outdated not any more supported OS?

    and to answer your question:

it's not possible to install Windows 7 on GPT. UEFI is a Bios. You cannot install there anything but a BIOS.

For anyone googling this problem, I found a solution. Faced it on my Acer Aspire V3-572G on latest bios version. All I had to do was pull out the hard drive, insert my bootable usb stick (no matter what OS you have on it), turn on the laptop and press f2 during the post (while acer logo is being displayed) (it will display if you have quiet boot enabled, which is by default). After hitting f2 it took me a bit longer than usual to enter the bios, so be patient (about 10 seconds since post). Once in bios, you have to move your usb drive in boot priority to the first position and save changes. This will enable you to hit f2 with the hdd/ssd installed and bootable usb inserted. Later you can change boot mode to uefi and you should be able to see all your bootable devices in uefi boot menu. Hope that helps.

Or you can just take out the bios battery which resets bios settings (everything except bios password in my case).
