Some Keys are not working in my acer aspire timelinex 5830TG

hello,

 

some of my keyboard keys are not working in my Acer aspire timelinex 5830 TG.

 space, V,B,Z,@ Keys are not working.

 

i bought my laptop in 2012 sep. i am big fan of acer. this Model is especially known for long battery life.  well, my battery works great. every thing works perfect, and i am getting frustrated about this key board problem. now a days i  am loosing faith on acer.  when i have seen some forums they answered that i need to change key board. can some one suggest some best possible solution about keys problem.

    i have the same problem. Technical support will not help becaue i am out of warranty time. That's a horrible customer service attitude. i will not buy another Apire product. The only difference is i am using an Acer Aspire 4743.

    Are you stating that you have the exact same problem with the exact same keys on a completely different product that is nearing 3 years old?  The solution is the same, however, you are beyond the warranty period.

    I'd like to know whether there was any resolution for this issue. Does purchasing a new keyboard solve it? I don't see any obvious problems with the ribbon cable, and all of my keys are depressing appropriately. Any thoughts?

     

    To clarify, the keys on my TimelineX which aren't working include Left-shift, 6 8 and 9.

    The exact keys aren't working for one of our Acer Timeline U laptops at home.

    We own three, and one of them so far have the exact same issue.

     

    Left-shift, 6, 8 ,9 on the number keys above the aphabet keyboard.  number pad is fine.

    Hello 

    I do have this issue of keys not working . I did go to the support center and the irony is when they tried all keys were working fine. 

    Sometimes I see that after restart of the system , the keys function properly but its really annoying when these donot work. 

    I am having extended warranty but support center says they cant do anything unless they see the problem . Now this is ridiculous ! Now I can't run every time to the support center as I said this issue is intermittent . 

     

    Do you have any other option of getting this issue fixed ?

    Same issue here with the same keys (well, it's not the Z-key, but the Y-key as I have a German keyboard) on a TimelineU. It started with the space key a few weeks ago ... how can I get that fixed?

    Experiencing the same issues on my wife's machine...even with an external keyboard there are still issues, specifically using the function (fn) keys.  Fn3, which should switch on Bluetooth actually opens up a search dialogue box.  this is very frustrating considering Windows (7) seems to default bluetooth to "off" every session and I can't find any other way to turn bluetooth on or off.

     

    Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

    hope so many acer people are getting frustrated due to keyboard issues. acer is not yet inofrmed me any kind of information regarding the keyboard issues. recently couple of my friends are buying new machines and they have asked me suggession. i am strongly rejected ACER, since they are loosing faith of customers. i was really big fan of acer, and now i decided not to buy any acer product in future and i ll make my friends to do the same. Acer Hardware, marketing teams were making to loose market share. i  never ever buy a acer product again. becoz some one who buys a machine with lesser money than me is still happy with his Lenovo machine, and i spent lot more than him even though i am not happy with my machine.

     

     

    hello people if you have some  problem with acer, if they can't  solve your  proble. just get rid of acer.

    Hello Acer-Tommy,

     

    This looks like a very common issue with most of the Acer laptops. It is not that all the Acer laptops having the keyboard issue have problems with the same keys. But this is a huge problem!! And can render any keys dead, not some specific.

     

    I have the same problem on my Acer Aspire 8943G, which I had purchased for a hefty price. But the support for your products is as bad as the hardware of the Acer Aspire laptops.

     

    In my case, my Aspire 8943G's keys, "S", "D", "G", "H", "M",  (Including the main "Return" key) and "7" and "8" on the Number-pad are dead. I have to use the Virtual Keyboard in windows OS to type. This is very frustrating as one cannot even type simple comments (I am using another PC from HP to write this comment). 

     

    When I tried to contact the Support, they want me to send the laptop to them on my own cost, and if there is a hardware issue found, I will have to pay additional charges for service and replacement of the keyboard. And this is unacceptable as I have already paid a huge sum for buying this product, and I use it daily for work. Sending it to Acer support just for verification would take weeks and it will create problems for me and my work.

     

    So first of all, please realize and agree to the fact that this is a huge problem which many of the Acer laptops are facing. And try to provide a better option and service support to the customers who have purchased these products.

     

    Keyboard is a part of the PC without which the PC is useless... Please get hold of this fact and improve your products.

    My Acer aspire 5830tg has the same issue started at last year, my keyoard cannot press z, v, b, space.

    What a disaster!!!!

    Hey, same here, my Acer M3-581 TG has the same problem, with the keys "left shift", "6", "8", and "9".

    As said the problem is intermitent but kills me while I'm writing my thesis, I started writing this message being able to use them and now they are not working. I had my laptop in the technical service at the end of the warranty period because the left screen hinge was broken and breaking the screen plastic, and I have seen that was a common problem of my model, please, Acer, your costumers need your support.

    same deal here. i have a 5830TG with the same exact issue. Some keys fail to work. It's always the same keys but they fail over a period of time and then work again only to have others fail.

     

    Currently, the V fail sporadically, the right shift, 9 on the number pad, the up arrow and probably others. And my laptop is maybe 2 years old.

     

    I had a toshiba for 9 years and it's still kicking. The screen went out after year 7.

     

    I haven't tried with an external keyboard.

     

     

    It seems that Acer has a reoccuring, known issue on their hands they don't feel like addressing.

    I have replace two defective keyboards because some keys do not work with original replacement keyboards but the same problem with different keys shows up again after some hours..
    [!] From time to time but rarely all the keys work properly but when I reboot the problem shows up again!
    Damned this is so weird!
    -Maybe a ribboncable with damage due to the high temperature of the laptop..? but I always use a super extra fan base that cools down the laptop..
    -Maybe a defective production of all the keyboards..? all the motherboards or what..?
    cry for all that money and hours I spend on that laptop.. it seems it can't be fixed.

    I have exactly the same problem with my Acer Aspire V3-771g.

     

    • Exactly the same keys: L-Shift, 6,8,9,0, F2, F11 and from the numpad key 1.
    • Sometimes (very rarely) the keys work (but always either all of them work or all of them don't)
    • I have reinstalled keyboard drivers and done a BIOS reset without any luck.

    I'm starting to believe this is acers way of forcing us to buy a new laptop after some time...

    After three keyboards in the trashcan (this is the fourth keyboard and hopefully the last I use) I found a solution on my own, 2 years later... with no support from acer.
    Anyway, the problem is caused because of the high temperature that affects the keyboard. (High temperature also affects the life of the battery..)
    My solution is to use always a cooling fan base, especially with games or demanding software.
    Is the best way to keep your keyboard working and your battery alive.
    The last eight months, I use a 4-fan cooling base. The keyboard is working perfectly, and my new battery is also 100% healthy.

     

    I strongly believe, that the faulty keyboard problem doesn't have to do with software.
    I know, sometimes the faulty keyboard works, especially if you hold a faulty key permanently, but that's because the keyboard manages to send signal out of the melted wiring. I checked thoroughly both of my three faulty keyboards with magnifying lenses and with electronic tests and I found malfunction once in the ribbon cable and twice in the keyboard wiring.

    I had this same problem with my aspire 5000. I tried everything mentioned on various boards,  cleaning between the keys, & uninstauling the driver from device manager then rebooting  but still the same keys didn"t work (or only intermittently).

    In the end, I removed the keyboard from the laptop carefuly banged out crumbs & dirt. I then dipped a pastry brush in soapy water, brushed between & under all the keys (to try to prevent more key failiures) let it dry and reinstauled the keyboard. I also cleaned the ribbon contacts that plug in to the motherboard. Amazingly, after a couple of reboots, the keyboard works perfectly even after several days so keeping my fingers crossed.

    Laptop and Netbook keyboards collect dirt and dust and that's why some keys can go bad. You can try and clean the keyboard yourself but if you don't know what your doing you will probably break a key trying to clean it. Acer cannot prevent dust and dirt getting from into your keyboard. That's the users responsibility. Therefore don't expect them to honor any warranties. The best solution to repairing a broken keyboard is to just replace the keyboard. It's inexpensive and will make your Laptop/Netbook like new again.

    Agreed! Just google "your mfrs model #" and "replacement keyboard" with the quotes. Most are less than $20 with free shipping. You can also google "your mfrs model #" and "disassembly" and you'll usually get video how-tos if you need them. Most are simple to replace. Jack E/NJ

    Solved - I have an Aspire E1-472-6414 that lost the use of keys: wery[kl.  I tried cleaning the ribbon connector- didn't work.
    Here's what worked for me:
    There is a thin metal plate under the keyboard which acts as the stop for the keyboard film.  I think, over time, and with hard typing, it got bent down a bit and prevented the keys from making contact.  I simply pushed the plate gently up to bend it back to its original position.
    That worked!  Hope this may help someone
