What sort of image quality are you observing with a built in webcam? On my brand new E5 575 the image is atrocious, very very grainy.

  • Hi,
Could you please check whether you have removed the little plastic protective sticker from the camera.

Yeah, no sticker. There wasn't one either, just the soft white protective sheet between the screen and bottom/keyboard panels.

So anybody else think the image is way worse than it should be?
  • Hi,
You could try reinstalling the driver for Camera, go to Device manager, expand Cameras, highlight and right click HD webcam, select Properties and uninstall the driver in Driver tab, reboot and let Windows install the driver.

Sadly no improvement, I guess it's replacement time. I'll update once I get a chance to look at output from the replacement machine.

Yes, that's correct decision as it's a new laptop, good luck with the replacement.

Well, replacement is in. Sadly the image is not that much better, if any.

So the bottom line is that the webcam is vastly mismatched to the screen resolution.

As poor as the quality may be, I am not able to access my webcam. I recognize it is probably as simple as turning it on but I can't figure it out! I did the Device Manager route and found the camera as a hidden device. I then updated the driver but was told I was using the best driver. I then uninstalled the camera so I could find it and re-install. Unfortunately, now the camera can not be found at all. All ideas are welcome.

Thanks, gave it a try but laptop still cannot find its own webcam, I've been told I need to do a complete reset. Am hoping someone has another option.
