Hello everyone,

I have an Acer F5-573-75MP laptop and I'm trying to find how to enable virtualization in the UEFI and I can't find it... It's strange cause I have an i7-6500 CPU which support virtualization. I need to run VMs on this laptop and most of them works using VMware, but I'm having some issues with linux based VMs and I wanted to make sure if it wasn't a UEFI function that is disabled. I've  tried almost everything to fix this on the software side already.

Anyone knows if there's a UEFI update or something else that can fix my problem ?

Thanks.

The hyper-V role cannot be installed on Windows 8 or 10 Home, it requires Windows 8, 10 professional or higher.

Some Acer systems have Virtualization Technology enabled by default, if the system support it. Use the steps below to confirm if Virtualization Technology is available on your system:

Press Ctrl + Alt + Del.
    Select Task Manager.
    Click the Performance tab.
    Click CPU.

The status will be listed under the graph and will say "Virtualization: Enabled" if this feature is enabled.

Most of recent Acer laptop models support both Hyper-V and VT-x* (not AMD CPU models), they are both enabled even if those options are hidden on BIOS.
If your laptop has an Intel CPU, you can check if you CPU/system supports virtualization instructions, using Intel Processor Identification Utility:

If your laptop has an AMD CPU, AMD-V is disabled by default on BIOS and can't be enabled.

Devices using Windows 10 Home will need to upgrade home to Windows 10 Professional or Enterprise to use Hyper-V. Windows 10 requirements can be found here:
    * If Hyper-V is ON, VT-x will not be available; Hyper-V must be OFF to have VT-x recognised by virtual machines.

    Turn OFF Hyper-V

    Method 1
Open a Command prompt with administrative rights (Admin)
    type
    bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off
    exit
    Reboot your OS

    or

    Method 2
Go to Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features -> click Turn Windows features on or off -> un-check Hyper-V -> click OK
    Turn ON Hyper-V
Open a Command prompt with administrative rights (Admin)
    type
    bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype auto
    exit
    Reboot your OS

    or

    Method 3
Go to Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features -> click Turn Windows features on or off -> check Hyper-V -> click OK

Thanks for the quick anwsers guys. So in this case it seems like it's enabled. So do you have any ideas why only my linux VMs would be slow ? I've tried with VMware and Virtual Box and it's the same. Everything is updated on my laptop, I use Windows Defender you it couldn't be an antivirus issue. I've tried to install several distro of linux (Fedora, Ubuntu, Mint, Lubuntu) and it's all the same it's really slow even if I give the VM 2GB of RAM and 2 CPU cores with enough hdd space (I have an SSD btw). I just don't know what to do at this point...

    Thanks.

Perhaps a dynamic guest might be worth trying. My SuSE distro seems to run fine with VMWare with no noticeable difference between the other 2 WinVMs on an HDD. Jack E/NJ

This thread is almost 3 years old. Please start your own thread. Include your full veriton model number and operating system. Virtualization is often enabled by default when the CPU is capable. Jack E/NJ
