Thank you both! In place of "Startup settings" in the image Jordan posted above, I have that same gear icon, but the option is "go back to the previous build"

If I do a safe mode boot from the Command Prompt, which should I choose? Safe Mode? With networking, with command prompt?

Glenn---You may be able to attach snapshots now on this thread. That may help Jordan. Jack E/NJ

    That's a good point!
Let me see what I can do.

I don't know how much more time I would put in to it personally.

I would probably backup my important personal files from command prompt and after I confirmed my files were backed up......I would wipe the drive from command prompt with diskpart clean and then clean install Windows or use my recovery drive or order my recovery media from Acer.

@JackE might have some more ideas.

I'm out of ideas sorry.  Plus I'm out-of-town for the weekend.  :)  Good luck.

Sorry...and for clarity, the safe mode question came from the links Jordan posted. Looks like I have a few options for safe mode when I get to the command prompt.

I already gave you the commands.  I typed out the commands for you already.  Good luck.

    At the command prompt, type

    bcdedit /set {default} safeboot minimal

    And then shutdown your computer.
And then turn on your computer.

If it doesn't work then please see my previous post on this page.

    Jordan,
    Thanks!

I received a "The boot configuration date store could not be opened" error. I'll try one of the other options you posted. It may be time to just wipe and reinstall Windows. I'm not worried about any files on the machine at this point in time.

Big update: It's working! I had some assistance from someone who downloaded a Windows 10 recovery USB.  We went to BIOS, changed the boot order and booted from the USB. We wiped the drive during the install process and let things go from there.

So I'm now posting from the ol' Cloudbook 11 chugging along on the latest version of Windows 10 Home. The only thing I had to do was download the touchpad drivers from Acer. And from there, remove the reverse scrolling which was a bit of a chore. Small price to pay.

Jack, thank you very much for the help! I know more about BIOS, command prompt and Windows than I did a few weeks ago. I appreciate you helping me out with this and all 7 pages of trial and error! It's great to have this laptop running again. It's a great little portable Windows device.

Great. Congrats! You have what is called perseverance & foresight. Cuz in your very first post you said >>>I feel the only option at this point is booting from a Windows Recovery USB.>>>
