That's it? No other explanation or failure code? Jack E/NJ

Unfortunately, that it. It's not giving us much information!

Terse messages like this usually means unable to write due a drive physical issue or no drive space --- I'm still guessing it's e:. What do you get when you enter "bcdboot c:\windows /s e: /f uefi" ? Jack E/NJ

    Jack,
It gives me that long list of bcdboot file creation tool thing. Same as the pic I sent over this morning.

e: seems stubborn. At the diskpart prompt, enter "list vol" again. If e: is still vol 1, then enter "select vol 1". Then enter "recover". If recover seems to take without error, exit diskpart. Then try to reboot again. Jack E/NJ

Got to diskpart. It took about 10-15 seconds before I could enter list vol....like it was chugging along behind the scenes.

Looks like "E" has dropped! Volume 1 is there, but no letter assignment.

Seems like even diskpart is having trouble reading the drive. So let's forget trying to assign a letter to volume 1 for now. Just "select vol 1" in diskpart. Then enter "recover" in diskpart to see if it can do any work on volume 1. Jack E/NJ

Progress! Selected Vol 1, typed: recover......."The RECOVER command completed successfully"

Well, then let's see what happens with entering "bcdboot c:\Windows /l en-us" at the command prompt. Jack E/NJ

"Failure when attempting to copy boot files"

    Certainly be stubborn!

Yeah, stubborn. At the diskpart prompt enter "list disk". Then enter "select disk 0" --- should be about 32GB size. Then enter "list partition" --- should see 3 partitions. Then enter "select partition 0" --- should be the biggest partition about 28GB size. Then enter "active" . Finally enter "exit". Then enter "bcdboot c:\Windows /l en-us"  again at the command prompt. Jack, I'll get to that this evening. Thanks again for the advice. I'll keep on trying! I'm not giving in yet.

One thing to note...prior to some of the changes made, the machine would boot into the blue option screen; you could reset the PC or troubleshoot. Now, it boots right to BIOS. I can still boot the command prompt by booting and hitting Alt and tapping F10.  I'll then get the multiple options (reset/troubleshoot ect) from there. Wanted to let you know the difference I'm now seeing.

    >>>Now, it boots right to BIOS.>>>

Do you mean the BIOS menu without tapping the F2 key? Or the ACER logo screen? Jack E/NJ

    Jack,
    Here's the rundown:
    List Disk:
    Size 29 Gigs
    List Partition:
    Partition 1 System 100MB
    Partition 2 Reserved 16MB
    Partition 3 Primary 28 Gig
    Partition 4 Recovery 500MB

Let me know which one to select. No zero available.

I'll do another reboot after we sort out the above. I want to make sure I'm giving you all the correct info!

At the diskpart prompt enter "Select Partition 3". Then enter "active". Then enter "exit". Then at the command prompt enter "bcdboot c:\Windows /l en-us" again and hope for success this time. Jack E/NJ

After selecting partition 3 and when I enter 'active', I get the following message: " The selected disk is not a fixed MBR disk, The ACTIVE command can only be used on fixed MBR Disks"

    This machine keeps pushing back!

Glenn---Something's not adding up for me. I see one too many partitions. When you enter "list disk" in diskpart, the return is only "size 29 GB"? Doesn't it also return "disk 0" or something to that effect?  You can send me a snapshot of what you get. Jack E/NJ

OK. We'll try to recover partitions 1, 2 & 3 one-by-one using diskpart. So in diskpart enter "list disk". Then "select disk 0". Then "list partition". Then "select partition 1". Then "recover". If successful, enter "select partition 2". Then "recover". If successful, enter "select partition 3". Then "recover". We'll leave recovery partition 4 alone --- it seems good since we're getting good command and diskpart prompts from partition 4. Jack E/NJ

Thanks Jack! I was able to successfully recover all three partitions on disk 0.
