Thanks a lot, I saw this table but couldn't confirm my comp is AMI Bios. Are 3 short and another 3 short counted as 3 or 6.  Because I also started to experience another problem about at the same time,  I cannot wake my comp anymore by pressing any key, 3+3=6, that is the keyboard controller failure according to the table

About being AMI Bios, it is, not need to confirm.
About keyboard controller failure, it can be.

I meant I saw this table before the original post, but was not sure the type of BIOS my comp has. Thanks a lot for confirming it is AMI. I guess I need to try to install new RAM first and then try to find new controller or buy a new computer :).  It is a pity, mine is only 3.5 years old and I love it.

Finally replaced RAM  with a new plate, everything is back to normal.  If I install both new and old RAM plates to my allowed max 8G, computer starts, wakes up from sleep, everything seems working OK. However, it still makes 3+3 short beeps at boot time. So all my problems can be trace to the bad original RAM.  Can I still use it in addition to the new RAM plate thus increasing my memory to 8G, or the bad RAM can cause some problem in the computer operation in some cases.
I can live with 3+3 beeps at boot time, if everything works
